Now, that's a first, huh?

A few years ago I took on the holidays. Nada would come, and usually cook

because I am not good at it and she likes things her way.

Then a few years ago I invited DH's family as well. Nada told me she wasn't

helping me. At all. I muddled through it (with help from my aunt, calling her to

talk me through stuff) and made a wonderful dinner. Dishrag was making fun of me

( " wow, I can't believe she actually cooked a good meal... " )in front of the 20

people I cooked for. My inlaws were furious because they knew how hard I worked

and thought it was terrible to make jabs at me when I was seriously trying and

when I did a good job.

Fast foward to today. We had plans, going to ILs. I was SO happy to not be

cooking/hosting. I just needed a break. Well my DS wakes up with 102. But

I've got another little one that wants Thanksgiving so the show must go on. So

DH and I make a list at 9am, he runs to the grocery store, and I cooked an

entire meal (trying a new quick stuffing recipe, thanks to my aunt walking me

through that) without a hitch and without breaking a sweat.

If it weren't for nada constantly ditching me and smugly telling me she refuses

to help me learn/cook, I would have never pulled that off today for my kids.

Even my sick little one ate a lot, poor kid. My aunt called to tell me how

proud she was of me. And that meant a lot.

So thanks nada, for never being there. You've made me stronger than I ever

wanted to be.
