Guest guest
It was CAD log 849 for 12/31/05 through CHP Monterey Communications Center. I have just finished a 14.5 hour shift and am done to a frazzle. A CHP LT assigned to the Santa Cruz Area has been killed on SR 17 while attempting to assist a disabled vehicle. A CalTRANs (DOT) employee suffered a broken leg (the DOT folks were out " patrolling " for mudslides, downed trees, etc.) at the same scene. The errant driver whose car came around a blind curve to strike vehicles and the LT is also deceased. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor. What started out as a simple motorist assist - originally reported as a solo vehicle into an embankment - turned into an 11-99 shortly after 2200 hrs. Monterey, Hollister-Gilroy and San Area officers are currently handling CHP incidents in Santa Cruz county to relieve the Santa Cruz Area officers today. Critical Incident de-briefing session(s) will be scheduled today or tomorrow - including the dispatchers. -- Happy to be here, proud to serve.
