Guest guest
Pam, Sorry you (and Ron) have to be here but as others have stated, you've come to the right place. We have a " resident " dr, one that was pre-med and several others that are more knowledgeable than most drs. with regards to PSC. And of course, with so many members, which is a shame in itself, you have a wealth of " been there, done that " support. and Steve listed the most effective treatments for itching. But as you will come to find out, successful treatments are different and may not work for everyone. The only treatment I found to work was Rifampin. If not explained before, it is used for TB and is none to overtax the liver so it is usually tried as a last resort and comes with even closer monitoring. Milk Thistle is by and large safe (taken as directed) and most tx centers will " allow " you to take it. I took it late in the game so didn't find any real difference, but others who take it swear by it. I still take it now as part of my post-tx multi-vitamin care. Your background as a nurse and extended resources no doubt will be of great assistance when caring for Ron. I imagine insurance is not a problem due to your profession but several here have had a hard time finding/maintaining/dealing with health insurance. Again welcome to the group.
