Guest guest
Kimmie _ I am 44 and had my surgery 7/4/03, so there are no babies in my future. But I have 4 and they are my greatest joy in life. IMNSHO, you should wait on that. If you get down to goal, your pregnant weight will still be less than your old weight. Also, I nursed my babies and did pretty well losing the weight after they were born, back to my pre-pregnancy weight, which was never all that good. It was between pregnancies that I really gained. I think if you are under control you can control your weight gain, although if you are at goal I think you should gain at least 30. By getting back on the plan, I think you would be able to lose the pregnancy weight. But I guess this is a personal decision. -- Jody
Guest guest
Kimmie: I am single and not married and YES, I do plan on having children. Remember, when you're pregnant you really shouldn't gain 40-60 pounds (which a lot of woman do or have done) you will gain some weight of course, but you'll be better in control of your weight (hopefully) by then. I want children in the worse way and I know at this weight I couldn't do it, nor would I. I would suggest really weighing the option of having your tubes tied first, this is nothing to jump into without some thought, but maybe you've thought about it a lot? Again, I'm not Post-op yet and I might change my mind once I'm down to a 14 and then 12 to a 10 I hope. I might say forget it, it took me X to get where I am and why have children now, but I hope that isn't the case because I really want to have children and watch them grow up and share my life. Again, just my opinion. Good luck! Beth K. > This is a question for those of you who don't have children. Guest guest
hmmm, kimmie. this is a constant thought of mine. my hubb is impatient for us to start a family. timing is one of the 1st questions i'll ask my plastic surgeon; have an appt in a couple weeks. in my heart of hearts i (we) want a child more than anything, so i'll toss vanity aside, i guess. luckily, the pouch'll keep me from eating too much, plus factoring in morning sickness, i'm praying not to gain tooo much. i'll deal with the weight redistribution & all that later. lori h. PS no rush, though, dh travels quite a bit > This is a question for those of you who don't have children. Guest guest
Wow, that's a tough decision. I guess you just really need to decide on whether or not you want children. Are you married? Does your spouse want children? I realize that a tubal is reversible, but what a pain to do it, then have to have it reversed. I have an 8 year old, I'm 32 and me and my husband want another. I can't get pregnant because of the weight, so yea, I'm hoping to lose my weight and in 2 years, get pregnant. I only gained 13 pounds when pregnant with my daughter. Just sounds like you need to prioritize........not gaining an ounze, or maybe gaining a little in order to have a little bundle of joy (in which case you can then lose the weight). Sorry......hope that didn't sound too preachy. Kim in NorthTexas 402/160 Open RNY scheduled for 9/8/03 > This is a question for those of you who don't have children. Guest guest
Kimmie, I think you have gotten some good advice. Your weight gain shouldnt be that substantial and you should definitely wait. Besides, you would be hard pressed to find any surgeon who would tie your tubes since you have no children and your reasoning is because you are afraid to gain weight. There are lots of temporary ways to prevent pregnancy and it sure would be a shame to do something permanant and then later decide you wanted children ~ami~

No matter what kind you have (coagulation where they destroy your tubes, or fallop clamps) you sign an acknowledgement that it is a permanant surgery. They very rarely do reversals anymore and when they do, then chance is slim to none that it will be successful.

I don't know why but I've never been the " mommy " type. Maybe that is seeping into my other reasoning for going ahead and having my tubes tied. I called a doctor near me and he WILL tie tubes of childless women if they are over 25 so that's no problem since I'm 32. It's probably hard to see my POV for most of you since it sounds like you all want children. I don't mean to sound selfish here, but I am working HARD on getting the body I want. I just don't think I want to risk losing it again by going thru something like a pregnancy, which in all honesty here grosses me out. Guest guest
Kimmie; Yes, that has been brought to my attention.. I had a friend ask me the other day, " So have you ever thought that you might go through with surgery, come out just fine, lose all your weight, accomplish all what you set out to accomplish, and then get pregnant.. And get fat again? Then what are you going to do? " It made me think, but considering I'm getting on birth control a.s.a.p., I'm not worried.. And by the time I do decide to have another child, I will be able to deal with it.. But I think that is a common concern.. Since I'm pre-op, I don't have all the answers to this one either, but I know I can get pregnant from the get go.. So I'll have to take preventive measures to make sure that I don't.. (THERE'S NO WAY, HE'S GOING WITHOUT SEX).. He's a phene.. Well anyway, I'd like to know what others have to say concerning this issue as well.. WELL???????? Let me know.. Guest guest
Kimmie, I just wanted to add something here… you CAN get preggers after this surgery if you wish. A friend of mine did it about 2 ½ years after her surgery and all the weight that she gained she lost again and didn’t have any trouble. Just something to keep in mind in case you ever decide you want children. Are you married? Planning on it? Ever? Guest guest
Hey, I totally support ya here.. You are right.. It's your body! And besides.. if you decided later that you did want kids.. man, there are so many out there that need loving homes... I just know for me personally, it's one of the reasons I am having the surgery!! but each one of us is different and we should celebrate our differences! I think it's brave to recognize in yourself that you aren't the mommy type.. I mean how many women out there have kids anyway and then end up resenting them or themselves.. (not to say that you would.. but you know what I mean) We'll support ya!!! Trish > In a message dated 7/14/03 11:55:41 AM US Eastern Standard Time, > reev7056@b... writes: > > > > want kids so bad..
