I had asked Sheryl about keeping Jess still and avoiding bedsores, etc.

We also talked about how badly Aubrie does with Versed, which is what

they are using with Jess. This is her reply:

" They have Jess on an airbed. It moves air back and forth underneath

her. They can also roll her from side to side without even really

touching her. It's all just an adjustment of the air. It's a neat

bed. She is supposed to be out, but she still wiggles to her position

of preference. They turn her right, and she turns left.

I don't like the versed either. Jess has a hard time coming off of it.

They are using morphine right now in combination with the versed and

this afternoon, she kept waking up and trying to move around. They

can't really give her more versed than what she is getting because her

blood pressure is running so low. I imagine they will do a rethink in

the morning about how to keep her out and what to do.

From 7-8:30 they close the unit for shift change. Before I left, her

eyes opened up and I told her I had to leave and would be back later.

Her little fingers waved bye-bye. After I walked out to tell the nurse

she was in there alone, I noticed Jess had a smirk on her face and her

hand was signing happy. The nurse asked what she was doing and I just

replied...she's telling you not to leave her alone because she thinks

she has a plan to do something naughty. I'm not sure if she dozed off

and she was left alone, but the night nurse said when she got in there,

Jess was at the foot of the bed and her hands were still restrained at

the middle of the bed. She just couldn't believe she got down there.

I'm just amazed the vent was still in her! They are going to have to do

something because she is overridding the meds too much. We'll see how

her night goes and what the morning brings. "

Rio will be coming back soon and one of Jess' associates is coming to

sit with her as well. The weather is warming in the midwest so Sheryl

will even get a chance to take a walk outside instead of just around the

inside of the hospital.
