Hi and everyone,

thanks for your congratulations on my weight loss. I'm thrilled for you

that you didn't gain and that you seem to be getting into line again after the

recent gains. I hope the journal idea works well for you

Thanks so much for your posting on addictions . It's a real eye opener.

I have a question about addictions - not to substances though. I have actually

discovered that I think I have a really strange addiction - I seem to need to

have something tin my mouth all the time. It isn't because I'm hungry but I

sometimes I find myself eating just for the sake of eating but not understanding

why. After winter the stone fruits are maiking a slow re-emergence on the

market and I bought some plums the other day. After eating one of the plums the

other day, for some reason I didn't throw away the stone but just kept it in my

mouth. It was still there hours later just sitting between the inside of my

cheek and my teeth. Just having something 'unswallowable' in my mouth gave me

the same sense of satisfaction as chewing food. I have never been able to get

this 'something in my mouth' feeling from chewing gum. No matter how much I try

to keep chewing I always end up swallowing it after a couple of minutes. Having

something in my mouth seems to overcome any food cravings and I never think

about food unless I am really physically hungry and in real NEED of food.

Has anyone else ever felt that they eat purely because they need the sensation

of something in the mouth? Perhaps it's just a mental 'prop' and maybe I'm

going crazy but it honestly does seem to take away all cravings but still leave

me hungry at meal times.

Marie
