BOCA RATON -- and Bransdorf meticulously prepared for

the birth of their second child.

" My bag was packed, the camera was ready to go and the baby book was

in the bag, " Bransdorf, 41, said.

But Hunter, the newest addition to the Bransdorf clan, scheduled to

enter the world Aug.11, opted for an early arrival Aug. 3 as his

mother got ready for bed. Doctors planned to induce , who

stands 5 feet tall, more than two weeks before her Aug. 28 due date

to make sure she would be able to deliver the baby.

Just after 10 p.m., as shoe-store owner worked on the

computer, hollered her husband's name. He found her standing

in the bathroom doorway in severe pain.

Bransdorf, 40, quickly left to make a couple of calls, one to

his mother to come stay with 2-year-old daughter Makena, the other

to 911. When he returned he couldn't believe what he saw: the baby's

head emerging. Thanks to Boca Raton emergency dispatch supervisor

Lauri Moehlman, the couple received a crash course in labor and

delivery, which they passed with flying colors.

" I was really nervous, " Bransdorf said. " It didn't gross me

out because I was there when our first child was born. I had the

phone on my shoulder ... and my hands were on [the baby's] head,

guiding him out. I kept telling my wife to be quiet because I

couldn't hear the operator. She only gave a few pushes and the baby

came sliding out. "

The 21-inch baby boy, born at 10:41 p.m., weighed in at 7 pounds, 15

ounces.

Calm replaced panic once Bransdorf heard his new son let out a

cry. Following Moehlman's instructions, wrapped the infant in

a towel and placed him on 's stomach. Moments later, paramedics

and police arrived and took over. helped by heating towels in

the microwave to keep the baby warm. As paramedics wheeled mom and

baby out of the house, Makena, initially asleep, but awakened by all

the commotion, greeted her family.

" Hi mommy, hi baby, " she chirped.

Moehlman was relieved, too. " It felt great, " she said. " Usually you

get bad calls, someone's in trouble, and you never have closure or

know if you helped the person. I heard the baby cry, the mother

asking about the baby and the father saying the baby's fine. "

Mother and child spent two nights at Boca Raton Community Hospital

before returning to their home in The Colonnade subdivision.

The Bransdorfs decided on the name Hunter before the birth; choosing

the middle name was simple once the child arrived: , after his

dad.
