I would have thought he would put you on Prilosec, Prevacid, or Nexium. Doesn’t sound to me like this is an ordinary case of heartburn. You might also try Zantac instead of Tums. It is now really getting bad. I just have to look at food and it starts.Mentioned it to my GI and he told me to take Tums. They do help but as you cant take them before two hours after other medications I do a lot of suffering, as I take my pills before meals. Guest guest Posted September 5, 2003 Report Share Posted September 5, 2003 Leona, I take Nexium. I can't miss a day or I am in agony. It works quite well. I have a hiatal hernia, GERD, and an ulcer. I was on it for twice a day for a month or so. My insurance won't pay for more than 100 pills a year. Crazy. It's quite expensive. My dr gives me samples. I guess when he runs out of samples he will tackle the insurance company for me. Hope that helps.
