Without going into privileged information I'll just say that it's easier to work with a classroom full of rowdy kids. At least they have some organizational skills. I am not surprised by this latest blunder. What I am surprised by is that the powers that be still are trying to remove the street boxes and close all 5 fire central offices, only to be consolidated with the E911 center. Let us revisit the past: Diesel generator test at 911: a power surge knocked out all of the PC's and it took them 15 minutes to reboot the entire system. FDNY not affected. The blackout: there was a Verizon failure, 911 was out for some time. FDNY not affected. Verizon screw up: No calls to 911 were making it to the PSAP. FDNY not affected. The city released a public notice to have people call 311 for general emergencies and call the FDNY central office for medical emergencies. I wish they'd stop putting a price tag on public safety. Guest guest
It is hard to believe in this day of redundancy in the 911 and telephany community that they would have something like this to happen. In our case in the south, Bell South has two trunks that feed into your center from two different locations... should one fail, the other will take over in a milli second. And as big as Verizon is, it would seem they would be the same

Guest guest
The problem was that it was not a failure. The tech redirected the lines. As far as the phone system was concerned everything was working normally. Human failure will always get you.
