MODERATOR'S NOTE: Everyone should be very careful using heat on a new injury

like Becky's. Heat can increase inflammation and make the injury and pain

worse. Ice is safer for a new injury, and for some old ones too! Heat - and

especially moist heat - is great when muscle tension or spasms are the major

source of pain, but only if no muscles are torn or injured and inflammation is

not part of the problem.

Becky,

Sorry your in such pain. One tip is moist heat. Use your heating

pad with a wet wash cloth and a dry towel on top of the wet wash cloth, then

apply them both to the top of the heating pad, place the

heating pad in area where the pain is and lay down for 20 minute on

med-med high. Then turn the heat dial off and just lay there until

you are cooled off. Do this again in 3-4 hours. It is amazing how

wonderful the moist heat gets down and deep into the muscles and

tissues. I have siatica and a bad back boy does it help.

Hope this help. Good luck.
