Guest guest
In a few months, I'll have 23 years at the same place. Only 23 more until I can afford to retire (just kidding). I'm outa here in May of 2008. It sounds so far away, but it's close enough to be scary. I've been fortunate enough to never have had to work on my birthday, but I will show up on my birthday in 2008, because that's gonna be my last day. I can actually retire in October of 2007, but I'm gonna hang in there until my birthday for personal reasons as well as the fact that it will get me an additional 1% on my retirement check. Every little bit helps. Then I'm gonna go drive the little red cart with all the flashing lights in the Wal-Mart parking lot. See ya' there. Actually, I think I am going to work 3 months after my 25 years so I can take a month off before I plan on going to work elsewhere. Guest guest
, You are always the comedian!!!! Actually I will work somewhere else for about 10 years, where it is still warm and sunny, and then retire for good. Hopefully somewhere in teh middle bewtween Orlando and Gettysburg. I don't want to be THAT CLOSE to my sister!!!!! I do miss the snow right now, it has been in the mid 90's for several weeks now. Too bad they quit taking names for Vancouver or we could all pile into a big blue van and head North of the Border!!!! Dora
Guest guest
I have 12 years in the FDNY, and 17 total with the city. Thanks to the 25 & out/no age limit pension, I can be out of here September 13, 2012 (but I'm not counting the days). Of course, that's assuming I survive the onset of teenagers. Guest guest
Ok, In conjunction with this, what led you to think this was the job for you? Not the " I want to help people " answer, WHAT was it about the job that appealed to you and, is that still a valid reason.

Not the " I want to help people " answer, WHAT was it about the job that appealed to you and, is that still a valid reason.<<< It was 1974, I was on unemployment and applying for jobs everywhere to keep the benefits coming in. I took the civil service test for dispatcher and passed somewhere near the top of the list. Went in for the oral interview and was asked if I was offered any other job compared to dispatch if I would take the dispatch job. I said no. Well, that sent me down to the bottom of the list. I didn't know much about it. I was just trying to keep the unemployment $$ coming in. They got to me at the bottom of the list before it expired. And the rest is history............... Guest guest
I probably shouldn't answer this... It gives away far too much about my age. I started dispatching at an agency BEFORE the community even had 9-1-1. I no longer dispatch... but I'm still a Dispatcher.
