I know your post was for someone else but I too had an incisional

hernia. It only hurt once in a while. It was just above the navel. A

hernia is the intestine pushing through the muscle where it was opened

for the surgery or where the muscle wall is weak. When you cough it

usually pushes out. I notice mine when I lie down and cough or push

gently by holding my breath. It is important to get a hernia checked

because the bowel can become constricted in the muscle and " die " which

is dangerous.

The surgery is simple, they open up the skin, tuck the intestine back in

stitch close the muscle and put a mesh over the muscle to keep it

reinforced. Most people go home the same day and are back to work

(depending on the work) within a week.

I have a hernia now on the right side of my navel from a different

surgery. I am having it repaired on 9/24 and hope to get the pannus

removed at the same time.(Come on Insurance, respond!!!!)

This is it in a nutshell.

Really? Just a week? I have a desk job (and, obviously, an incisional hernia

just above the waist). When I talked to my surgeon about having it fixed and

how long I would be off from work, he told me 3 weeks. I was thinking maybe

2 weeks at the most (I don't have a whole lot of leave available). I was off

4 weeks for my RNY. So, I was thinking 3 weeks seems a little long,

expecially for a desk job.

Thanks for any additional information that can be provided on this topic.
