Whiling Away the Wee Hours

Hi All

There is nothing quite like a campy DVD to help while away the wee

hours. :-) My wrist and hand are really giving me some sleeping grief,

so I'm extra grateful this week for ice packs, Lidoderm patches, Mark's

ability to use scissors and to apply tape, and for cheap on line DVD

rentals. Tonight's 2 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. fare has been Galactica 1980.

My favourite dead pan line thus far comes while they have time travelled

behind the lines in Germany in early June 1944. " Now is not the time to

be correcting grammatical tenses. " Totally camp. Rates right up there

with " Little Shop of Horrors. "

I never watched much television while growing up. Come to think of it,

it didn't rate very high after I got big either. Too many other

interesting things to go and do and a world full of books. Even though

when Mark and I got married, I insisted he join the modern world and get

cable, television still didn't rate very high in my little world. I did

like to watch VHS, DVD, and movies on what Mark fondly calls the " all

men are a**holes " channel. :-) The older I get, the more I find the

advertising breaks every five or six minutes very irritating, so rarely

even see shows I might actually like.

Then came on line DVD rentals. When I first started renting, I watched

dozens of delightful movies. Now I'm watching all sorts of Showtime,

HBO, CBC, and BBC, series bits and the cream of the shows I never saw

low those many years ago. Best of all, I'm seeing them all advert

free - on my schedule.

This week, I'm gettin' my kicks on Route 66
