Welcome home. > Cheryl, THANK YOU ! I felt so good that I could do this for my Dad but I definitely had to take my medications and to be truthful more often than I should (four hours instead of the six although the PDR for the meds say you can. PDR (Physicians Desk Reference and the fact sheet for my meds). I went to my Nurse Practitioner at my Pain Clinic and she was all excited (I have known her for years) and they have been going to seminars and training and she was telling me the current philosophy is to have the lowest amount of opiates and to add neuro medications like Neurotin, Lyrica, and Topomax and other medications. She started saying maybe we can reduce my opoids dosages. I believe in both theories but opoids are just medications just like other medications. It would like saying, well let's reduce your thyroid just to see if we can. My blood pressure when I am in pain was 176/125 and is documented in the chart and she said, " Well Morphine can make your blood pressure go up " . Well being in pain makes your blood pressure go up, thyroid problems make your blood pressure go up. I had these " bug bites " I thought I had but in fact she said I had shingles on the back of my leg and I thought it was painful and she said it will clear up. She did not call my primary care or tell me to. I called my primary care on call yesterday as there is a anti-viral medication that you take with in 72 hours and he was concerned my pain clinic did not tell me to call. Then, last night I had really bad chest pain on the left side and it was bad, I did not know what to do, then I took a sleeping pill and this morning I woke up and I was broke out with shingles on the area I was having chest pains ! So everyone look out if there doctors start telling you of the " new thinking on pain dosages " I keep up on our site, American Pain Foundation, and other sites that deal with this. My clinic have anesthesiologists so they like to give injections over medications. T hanks for the welcome. Bennie

I made it home in the rain, had a fibro flare and a case of shingles on the back of my left leg, never had that and glad it is going away. Hi Bennie I'm so glad you're back, but so sorry you have had a case of shingles. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. I hope it resolved quickly. Wow, I can't imagine still having my Dad alive. He died when he was only 68. Actually, since he had Alzheimer's disease we lost my true Dad slowly over the previous 4 years. This is about you, not me. Please take good care of yourself, I'm sure you are very tired. Once again, welcome back. Kaylene

Cheryl, Thank You- I went in Fri and my pain management says shingle don't worry about it. Sat, I had the worse chest pains, thought I was having a heart attack, broke out there ! I called Pain Management clinic yesterday and told them that they need to be more communicative with my primary care when they identify and I could have lost the 72 hour period that they can give the anti-viral to make the shingles subside. I do NOT appreciate their contract, mantras, and reminders that I and other members of my health care team let them know and they do not reciprocate and that as the patient when I am sick, I do not have the time doing their job communicating these thing for them. Well they agreed and I told them this is not the time to start reducing my pain meds, I will do it when I am well and if they check by blood pressure history 230/120 last month does not show that my pain is covered well in the first place and to leave me alone, a renowned pain management doctor titered me to that amount and they have a problem with it, and they cannot tell me the amount they are comfortable with, leave it alone. I get Very very crabby when I am weak, in a fibro flare, and pain. I think they got the message, so to speak. I never cuss but when I am in pain I have been known to curse with the best of the sailors : ( I am staying under the covers, so to speak.
