Hey and gang,

So i cant say that I know too much about being on

steroids but i can imagine that its not that fun. What

i do know about is having your colon chopped out and

thrown away!

Let me just clearify i few things to make sure we are

on the same page. I had to have mine out rather

quickly due to the high threat of cancer (had high

grade dysplasia). I had a j-pouch done in 2 steps (two

operations about 4 months apart), during the 4 month i

had an ileostoly bag, then had it all reconnected

inside during the second surgery. im sure that you've

read all about that procedure but just wanted to make

sure.

I wasnt given a choice about what type of procedure i

was going to have, whether it be a J W or X pouch. I

dont know if that is one of your decisions or not. im

going to assume that you are going to have something

very similar to mine, 2 or 3 steps with a ileotomy bag

for a while and then get all hooked up at the end.

We are both 22 year old's, im not going to lie to you,

from start to finish it sucks (for lack of a better

word). But it sucks a little less each day. and before

i tell you any more, know this its been about 8 months

for me since the first operation and today im back to

normal (or at least pretty darn close).

The hardest part for me was not the surgeries (most

cause i have had them in past so I had already got

over that hurdle, i can eleborate further if this

would be your first), it was the embarasement factor.

the thought of walking around with a bag attached to

my stomach for 4 months was too much for me. But its

not that bad at all, you throw a sweater on and no one

can tell. I only told a handful of people and no one i

didnt tell figured it out. But maybe this isnt

important to you, im just easily shy i guess.

I can tell you with my particular experience that you

will go back to pretty close to normal within a year.

....ah i dont know what else to say, the best thing is

for you to ask me any questions you have, and i know

some of them kind be touchy for some people but not

for me, fire away any question. As i said we are the

same age i know what you are going through and what is

at stake. And if i cant answer them my good friend JD

will be for sure.
