The spouter of positive thinking and exercise is going to have RNY as she's

up to 200 again...yes Oprah has made the connection or so says the

scuttlebutt at my support group. Of course I have no specific facts just a

rumor but I loved it...

I totally agree though when I said that in 97 my Doc said actually it

has only been perfected in last 5 (now 7) years so we probably had it in the

perfect time. Today at my support group they were discussing a man who had

it w/o the silastic ring and is now gaining and fighting his ins for a

revision. Of course this is on an individual basis as I know two friends who

had the surgery and are well pleased and their doc doesn't believe in the

silastic ring... I guess it all depends

Better tell your friends to sign up fast before the rush. If she gets it,

surgery will be booked for years ahead of time.

I don't need her to have it to see the diet industry (or her) defeated.

People have always bought some kind of snake oil and always will. I just

think a lot more people could be benefiting. I would have done it sooner if

I had even known.

If she is " only " 200 pounds, she is not morbidly obese and thus would not

qualify for the surgery YET. Right?

However, money talks... :0(

I kind of wanted the silastic ring, but my doc won't do it first time

around. He said personally that he didn't want to put anything in if he

didn't have to. However, he says, he can place the ring laparoscopically

later to save a failing RNY. Hope it never comes to that, but I ain't going

back to big world if I can help it.

I also do not meet the requirements for surgery, but I'm self-pay, so the

doctor allowed it. I think the requirements are more for insurance companies

than for the doctor.

Where did you hear this? I heard that Roseanne was talking to her about it

but I can't believe it. And by the way she is 250 if she is a pound. I used

to get so mad when she was the same size as me (a 22-24) and she always said

she was wearing a 14! Then I bought her " make the connection " book and felt

bad when I could not " connect " I guess she is no different than anyone

else, she just has such a " superior attitude " sometimes.... Jan C. 3-11-98

Jan, you are so funny! I agree that 200 would be low-balling it for

her....I mean, I know the camera adds 10 pounds, but how many cameras

are on her?

And I won't believe that Oprah is doing this until I hear it from her

mouth.

I emailed Oprah about 2 weeks ago requesting her to consider doing a

show on how wonderful this surgery is albiet a last resort. I told her

how it saved my life and I gave out my web address. I also expressed

that this is NOT another diet theme. I also gave her some other

websites to visit by Chicago Dr's that perform the surgeries.

The letter/email was suggested by another person on another list and she

was hoping that with enough of us writing, she may have a show or series

of shows about the different surgeries and success stories.

My surgeon actually announced it when others at our support group meeting

were asking questions bout carnie 's lap RNY.... I know... I think her

theories were lovely but having suffered herself so ... oh well we all have

felt the feeling of " this time I've found it. " Luckily we have found the one

with the best statistics...
