Guest guest
Hi Bearyllis, I think this is a wonderful idea. I wish I could go to the annual get-together, but this year; it is in Nashville, TN. Perhaps we can meet people in our region for mini-meet ups in a public area. I think that would be great! Like someone else mentioned, it is truly hard to find people who 'get it'. To meet people in person would be extremely gratifying to me. *Ahem*...so besides being a KO, I am an animator/illustrator in the Southern CA. The weather now is in mid-eighties, but I think it was cooler today. I'm currently taking a break right now from my animating. I only work here freelance once or twice a week. Currently looking for more work to pick up slack money-wise. I'm also working freelance once a week on a client's book using Indesign and Photoshop. I learned Indesign at my last job. I start a job at Lenscrafters soon part-time to help pay bills. I'm interested to hear about you, Bearyllis. Also interested to hear if any else in the So. California area may someday like to form a meetup group of some sort. Maybe not on these boards necessarily--but via email for confidential/security reasons. @-->->--- ~Joy~ > > We have come to know each other as KOs - and so much information has passed between us. Where (generally) you are (state or region) and how's the weather? All the little things that make us who we are beyond being a KO. > > > Flowers in Oz > > > >
Guest guest
Oops--I meant to say I find it a good idea on your part to begin a convo about what makes us " us " . Meeting together was a spin-off of this. : D *cheers* > > We have come to know each other as KOs - and so much information has passed between us. Guest guest
I too think this is a wonderful idea for those that feel safe doing so. So here is me... .....I am newly married (second marriage), have one grown daughter and two grandchildren, I am 40 years old, I live in Phx, Az and it is super hot hear most of the year . I am the Chief Clinical Officer for a Battered Woman's Agency where I have worked for past 10 years. I am trained as a Therapist and still do therapy but mostly supervise the agency/programs/staff. I like to travel a lot, especially out of the country. I paint and read too. I am caucasian, short and currently a little chubby (working on that right now). I have a dog who I have had for 13 years and is my baby! I am an only child and come from a very small family, 2 uncles and 1 grandfather. I would love to meet other KO's in a group setting or whatnot if we could coordinate something on the West coast and wouldn't mind flying somewhere like California, Nevada, Utah...etc. le > > > > We have come to know each other as KOs - and so much information has passed between us. Guest guest
She is a Corgi/Beagle mix. She is such a good dog! Do you have pets? You sound very creative, I always appreciate that in people. I too was looking at the Nashville one but thought that was a bit much so I have been hoping to hear of one a little closer. I have read on here how people have met at a group thing and how wonderful it was. P.S. Nice to " meet " you! le > > > > > > > > We have come to know each other as KOs - and so much information has passed between us. Guest guest
Your dog sounds sooo cute! I love Corgis and Beagles. My first dog was a Beagle. I'd say my favorite dog, though, is a pug. Whenever I see one, I can't stop smiling. My Nada has 3 dogs. They were there when I lived there, too. They are a Bichon Frise, Miniature Poodle, and an Italian greyhound. I'm glad to hear you are a therapist. Especially since you have a lot of insight into BPD, and it is hard to find therapists with this kind of training. Guest guest
Funny you say about me being a therapist and having insight into BPD because I totally missed it with my nada...funny how it can be right in front of you and you totally deny it. Denial is a powerful thing! But I am finding that the more I learn about nada the more I feel that I will have good " BPD therapy tools " when a client sits in front of me with a nada/fada to be able to actually help. I envy the therapists that can work with BPD/NPD clients, they have LOTS of patience! It is also a specialized training to work with BPD clients, so you are right there aren't a lot of therapists that specialize in it due to the training. I don't have the training myself, but could work with KO's. I love all dogs, I love going to the pet stores! Pugs are adorable! So fun and hyper! I had a friend who used to have one and I always called him a " slippery sucker " cause if you tried to catch him or hold him he would slip from you hands in one second and just keep bouncing all over the house, he was adorable! His name was Toby. Too cute! > > > > > > > > > > > > We have come to know each other as KOs - and so much information has passed between us. Guest guest
I like this idea too because especially recently I've been on here sharing my pain and traumas yet there is much more to me than that. I'm a capitalist executive, not my true calling for sure but I keep getting promoted and I'm not yet ready to leave it behind.I turned down a recent promotion because I know that I am flagging and my boss is not too pleased with my decision because I was being groomed to take her place eventually. But so be it.Sometimes you have to feed your soul even if it hurts your career. I live in the Northeast.I left home at seventeen to study sculpture in Paris and ended up living in Europe (Paris then London) until I was 34 when I returned to the States.I got into the world of business through my ex wife who worked for a major investment bank.I never got my MBA but have climbed through sheer force of personality and the profitable ideas I can generate into results. It's a cut throat climate and I think that having had a cut throat nada taught me how to feel at home in such an environment but I am growing very tired of it.I work long hours and often function on little sleep as I will do tomorrow.I want to do something else but need to work more on myself before I can figure out what that is. If I had my way,I'd be a philospher.I enjoy reading philosophy in my spare time and particularly like Spinoza, who wanted to create a philosophy of happiness.I also like to sing and regret that I never trained my voice because people tell me I can really sing well.I don't see myself becoming a singer, though.I also like to play the violin and keep meaning to get more serious about perfecting my technique. I have a dog who is like the kid to me and my partner and we include her in as many evening activities as we can aside from just exercising her.She comes to dinner with us in the warmer weather when we can all eat outside. She's a Husky/Carolina Dog mix and one of the most compassionate creatures I know. So,that's some of me > > > > > > We have come to know each other as KOs - and so much information has passed between us. Guest guest
Dear Joy, I have a son, very artistically talented, out of high school a few years, who has wanted to be an animator for many years. Would you be willing to contact me off list or let me email you<question mark; key is broken> I would like to know more about that career path – what he should be doing now to achieve that goal, how I can be helpful, etc. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi K, Sure; I wouldn't mind writing to you more about this career path off-list. It was my major in college (entertainment art/animation), and I interned at an animation studio while still in college. I think I have a knowledge base that may shed more light on this field. I'll send you an email. -Joy > > > > > > We have come to know each other as KOs - and so much information has passed between us.
