Guest guest
An update from Sheryl on 's surgery: " Jess did very well in the surgery. She went in at 1 and was out around 5 or 6. They ended up doing a complete revision of her disconnection. With this they removed the pouch, lengthened the distance from the esophagus to the intestine and connected this into a new location of the intestine. Since he didn't see any obvious reason for things backing up in her, he is hopeful that this is going to do the trick. They had enough time that they did lower her stomach. He said there wasn't much room to move it too far down but at least it is now out of her ribs. She was taken to adult ICU (this is a first time not in peds) and is being kept out. The plan is for her not to be woke up until she has healed some so she does not undo what they did. I have heard a couple of different time frames for that plan. Some are saying 5 days and some are saying 7 days. We keep telling them just to be sure of their plan because once they wake her, she will be ready to go. They are using propafal (sp) to keep her out. It wears off quickly and works quickly. When we go in, she is aware that we are there and tries to wake up. This morning the nurse let her wake a little so she could see us. Her arms are restrained so she doesn't grab anything if her meds wear off, but she can still sign. She looked at Rio and signed " finished, Go! " That was not for us to leave. It was clear that she was finished being there and wanted to go. It was so cute. I told her, not time...more fix. She signed back, fix yes. When Mitch got there, she looked at him and signed, I happy. It made his day. It was a very lazy happy, but she got it out. The rest of the day she has been too out of it to communicate. She got a little active during shift change this evening and they upped her dosage. Tonight she didn't even move when we touched her. " Sheryl is staying for the duration (several weeks perhaps) but they won't allow her to stay in the waiting room. She's got a place at a " hotel " attached to the hospital. Rio and Mitch will come as they can. So keep sending positive thoughts and prayers their way! Michele W Aubrie's mom
