I am going to get my blood test results today and I will post them. Currently, I am absolutely clueless about all the numbers so I appreciate your help.

Thanks.

First of all, are they going by the TSH, and could you post the full labresults on this? Second, it is total idiocy to go by the TSH, IF that'swhat they're doing, since you positively have NO thyroid for the pituitaryto stimulate. That's the part that I don't understand about thesesupposedly intelligent doctors, as in, "What part of this disease can't youunderstand, it's so obvious!?". Common sense says that, with absolutely NOthyroid hormone production, the whole darn amt needs to be replaced, sincethere's no thyroid activity whatsoever, and that would mean at LEAST 3 fullgrains of natural thyroid or (someone help me out here, please), orapproximately 150 to 300 mcgs or more of synthetic T4. The healthy thyroidmakes anywhere from around that amt going upwards, varying some from personto person, but I don't

think it EVER made hardly any less than that. Iknow, there ARE varying opinions on that, but I would LOVE to see your FreeT3 and your Free T4 values, NOT the TSH. The TSH is THE most useless test,esPECIALLY when someone has no thyroid for it to "haggle" at. Did you know that when we are still just little "zygotes" in our mothers' wombs, that the thyroid is sort of at the center of ongoing events, as the cell division goes on and on? It's absolutely amazing to read about that. I can't even remember where that link went, darn it!

Re: New member

Thanks for the support and the advice. I am going to get a copy of my labs and I will post later today. It sounds like I need to be doing some research of my own to understand this "thyroid" thing. I never realized how important the little thing really is.

Thanks ;-)

Hi ,

Welcome aboard!

When you were diagnosed with hypothryroidism, did the doc by any

chance

define it more clearly? Such as Hashimoto's or Graves or ???

If there is one thing that is great about this group is that we tend

to ask a ton of questions in order to get a clearer picture of what

you are going through, and then offering our two bits of knowledge.

Get copies of your tests....

It's possible to gain weight when hyper, but not common.... I'm wondering.... there are folks that have various issues that can cause TSH testing to be VERY inaccurate... showing false lows when the thyroid hormones themselves are very low... (TSH is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone.. )

Weight, to gain, lose or maintain as to do with metabolism. You control your food intake and exercise to work in combination with your metabolism to gain, lose or maintain. If you are exercising, and watching your calories, and not losing weight.. there is something wrong.

You have inflammation, but no nodes or anything, that they've said..... so I wonder about your hormone levels.

I was hyper from puberty on, finally going into storm in my early 30's.... I had trouble with weight all the way up until I went into storm. I was not fat, I was muscular, my BMI was 21 even though I weighted 277 and had held that weight through most of the time I was body building... but then went into thyroid storm and had trouble eating enough to stop losing...

What I'm trying to say is that we don't all react the same way to hyper or hypo... and just because they say that your levels are 'normal' and every thing is okay... well... you seem to already know that something is wrong.. You've been working hard to maintain a healthy weight and it's not working.... why?

You aren't hiding in a closet at night eating bon bons while every one else is a sleep, are you???? (Please, that is meant as a joke!!! hehehehe)

I think it would be a VERY wise idea to give your doc a call and ask for copies of your tests, if you're in the US it's the law that they have to give them if you request, and some of them will ask for a copy fee, so be ware.... but they have to give them to you....

I would VERY much like to see what they have been testing.. what your values are (and the lab's ranges) and see if we can spot something that they are not seeing.... I'm not saying that we are experts here... but we know a great deal about how to interpret these tests....

This could be a case, as one example, where you are hormone resistant but the labs they are taking are showing you as having an excess of hormones, not because you do, but because your body is unable to use them.... or one of several other possibilities....

Lets see if we can help you figure this out... it's not fair to have to fight so hard and have things not work as they should... and have everyone tell you that you're just fine... therefore it's not working is YOUR fault.....

I have been a new member of this group and have quietly read all of your messages but just today have felt the need to vent. I must start off saying I dont read any of my blood test results and I will try best as I can to explain my situation.Starting September of 2002 I started gaining weight about 20 pounds concerned I went to the doctor and asked my thyroid be tested as I had read an article about hypo and I felt I had many of the symptoms tiredness, achiness, mood swings, etc.I tested and 2 weeks later still had not heard back from my doctor - I finally called and was told I was ok not hypo and blood work looked normal. So I continued to diet and struggles to lose 20 pounds only to gain back 30 pounds. Since that I have numerous urinary tract infections, kidney infections, and contats urine tests that should I should be diabetic though blood work shows the contrary.Fast forward to 50 punds heavier and these past four months. I got a new doctor due to insurance reasons and explained my previous tests, etc. She promptly ordered more blood work and called me back in 2 days! She ordered the labs on my previous tests and all four showed I was hyper! my previous doctor failed to mention that...She referred my to an endrcoronlogist who ordered more blood work...again. I t showed hyer activity...I was put on Metabol heart medication...I was sweat had serioud dandruff ( never had that before) and I have spent $1000 on a personal trainer & ate so strictly I was certain I would lose 50 lbs in six months...I have lost 10lbs.She then sent me to an RAI uptake test last week..I waited till today to get my results...from the recopnist at the office to be told no cancer or tumors...good news but still inflammation...I could have a follow up appointment in August if I would like...I lost it...Two years and counting and another 3 months! Well I got an appt. for Friday but I want another endo. ....anyone else gone through this...so frustarting!

Yes, my next visit isn't until next month.

The only thing I have felt are weird pains in my legs. Maybe not

pain, but the feeling like I have over worked my legs.

This combo is only temporary (13 days) after that it will be Levoxyl

by itself. Of course this depends on mu next lab results.

I feel fine, but by the evening I crash. I am only taking half of

the cytomel, one in the morning and the other half in the afternoon.

I just took my 60 second pulse and it is about 70 (I almost lost

count....he, he, he)
