Guest guest
Hi , Welcome! I am so glad that Crystal shared this site with you. I know you will find it helpful. I also suffer from from severe nausea. Well, I don't right now because I am on TPN. However, before that was started I switched from Phenergan to Zofran. I thought Zofran really helped far better. It also doesn't have the drowsy side effects that Phenergan has. What Pancreas center are you going to? Guest guest
, Thanks for the info. I have just been placed on Phenegren for my nausea and vomiting. While I find that it does work faster and more completely than does Compazime, it does tend to make you drowsy. I will have to ask my doctor about Zolfran on my next visit. Guest guest
Hi Lynne, I am so glad that you have found this Network. I added you as a member. This disease can be so lonely at times. My experience is that we " present " quite well. So well, in fact, that others do not realize how sick we are. Tell us more about your situation. What took you in to be diagnoses? Do you have any other health problems? We are seeing a pattern in some. Where do you live? Do you have access to Pancreatic specialists? In regard to the nausea: I choose to not attend functions where there is food. It may help your family and friends to understand that the sight or smell of food, cause the pancreas to secrete digestive enzymes. The Pancreatic problems you had, although, stabilized as your doctor has said, may continue to be poorly drained from your pancreatic duct. The enzymes, when stuck in the pancreas begin a process called autodigestion, in which the enzymes begin to eat and digest the pancreas. I also have to take medicine for nausea. There are many antiemetics. I take Zophran with good results. I am sure you will get some other feedback from others in the Network. Guest guest
At some point in your life you say Enough! Why would you put yourself through being ill at a dinner and not saying anything? Why would your family want you to do that? Are you afraid they will feel sorry for you or it will make you the venter of attention. If they are the type of people that would want you to be " " " " silently sick " " " " , So they don't have to deal with your illness. Then you need to put a stop to it. It may help to say, I would love to go out to dinner with you but don't take it personally if I have to excuse myself from the table. If they do, tough. If not then go. You may want to meet them for dessert instead. Please don't be a brave little soldier. It takes to much of the energy you need to heal and to survive in the first place. Guest guest
Hi Lynne, I forgot to mention that I no longer eat and am on TPN. I went to a weekend music festival this weekend. When the rest of the group of participants went to eat I went back to my room and took a nap. Nobody thought that was strange. Also, when my boyfriend and I have plans with some friends, frequently they will go out for dinner and I will join them later. Honest communication works bests. And don't get into the what if's. Guest guest
Hi Jan, I have been in situations where I have gone out to eat with my family and not long after the meal is down I'm in the bathroom for 20 to 30 minutes. Sometimes the meal actually stays down and then my husband is breaking speed limits to get home so I can dump everything there. We have not been out to eat in months. The last time we did go I got sick. It is really a waste of money, but I feel bad depriving my family of eating out because I always have such a horrible time. I also find that I fall asleep shortly after each meal. I think it has something to do with my blood sugar, I guess. Andre'

Have you thought about seeing a marriage counselor? >> Hey Cheryl the Organizer (Love that name); Yes, my wife and I have been considering counseling but I'm not keen on the idea. I have a great deal of difficulty opening up to strangers and talking about personal situations. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't share this hesitancy which is another problem in and of itself Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement. People never know how they will react to situations such as this. Not that I'm out of the woods yet, but I am optimistic that we can work through this, especially if I can return to work fairly quickly. I think the thought of me going out on disability or losing my job was more than she could take at the moment. I need to stick this out (employment) as long as humanly possible to take some of the stress and worry off of her shoulders. While I may not be able to control this disease I have, I can make certain that it doesn't impact the quality of life we currently share. In the process, hopefully she will develop a new appreciation for what I have to do daily to stay employed and continue the illusion of " normalcy. " Wish me luck. Guest guest
" Most places will give you a large enough salad that you will have something > to do through the dinner " Andre' I'm surprised that you are able to tolerate salads! I used to love salads but they just do not agree with me any more. However, I do LOOOOVE those desserts--well, a few bites, anyway. P.S. I'm so very, very happy for you! I hope that you & your wife are able to work things out. Have you thought about seeing a marriage counselor? I've only been dealing with this illness for less than a year & I'm not nearly as ill as you are or have been, and I KNOW that this could very well take a toll on my marriage-- & it's a very solid, happy one! I AM seeing a therapist right now so that I can deal with this & the life changes that have taken place & may yet take place. Just a thought, it's not for everyone! But I am so very, very happy for you. Guest guest
Dinette Thank you for your input, but the desert wouuld be bad for me too. No, I'm not trying to be a good little soldier. I don't want my daughter in law (whom I love greatly) to know how sick I am because she would be verythoughtful of me and not ask me to do all the thiings I get to do with the grandchildren. Example, she tells people not to give me chocolate as gifts because she worries so much about me. Nice, but I want to do as much and spend as much time with my grandchildren as possible. I wish that I was having vomiting as well. I think I would feel better if I could throw up. >> Hi , Not exactly a pretty topic, but I did understand what you meant about being nauseated. What took me back to my GI was my intractable nausea. It wouldn't go away. In the beginning I took Phenergan. A few months ago I ask the doctor to switch me to Zofran because I had heard it helped the nausea without the sedative effects. I don't need anything to make me feel more fatigued. The nausea persisted however, and I requested TPN to allow me to fully rest my gut. I haven't had any nausea since then except for my acute attack yesterday. I found your comment that you have nausea without emesis (vomiting). That was the way it was for me. So many people I talk to have emesis and at least they feel better. Before, whenever I would go to the doctor, I complained of severe nausea, but when they asked how many times I had emesis, I said none. They then quickly dismissed my complaints of nausea. I hope your nausea gets better. Sometimes I did find that Ginger tea made me feel much better. Karyn
Guest guest
Okay, maybe it's just me, hopefully not though. Since I am two weeks post-op I thought I had a handle on how my body reacted to everything but now I'm not so sure. Every morning for the past week I am nauseaous when I wake up and it takes me about 3 hours to get over it. It's like being pregnant and having morning sickness without the vomiting (sorry to be graphic but...you know what I mean). I try drinking my water to see if that helps and it tastes like copper in my mouth and I can't stand it. I am NOT allowed any solid food. This has happened every morning for the past week and I'm literally sick about it. What do you suggest? in Tx Lap RNY 6/20/
Guest guest
I read the article, and as a pre-op, it sounded scary. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/134644382_obese02m.html What does everyone think? I keep bouncing back and forth as to what to do about having surgery for myself. Charlotte Re: Nausea I think the reason for the copper taste is the build up of keytones in your system from the protein and of course rapid weight loss. I haven't had the surgery yet, but people do complain about the nausea. I would suggest to make sure and drink all your fluids daily and it might help with the taste. Also, for everyone in the group there was a great article in the Seattle times about a couple who had the surgery last January on the same date and it talks about their progress. The wife actually ended up being really sick due to I think not getting enough fluids. Go to www.seattletimes and check it out. It was in Sunday's headline newspaper. in WA ..
