Guest guest
To: Dave Vale Hi Dave ! My name is Ivan Dekovic from California USA and I am trying to contact Dr. McMinn for my surface replacement on my right joint of my hip. Could you please send me his E-mail, address, Ph. and Fax numbers. Thank you very much, Ivan Dekovic Vale wrote: > Hi Dave > > Could you not be referred to someone (albeit South of the border) who > does use the Birmingham hip? Guest guest
Hi Dave Could you not be referred to someone (albeit South of the border) who does use the Birmingham hip? I have no idea about what the surgeon in Glasgow is doing - it may be fantastic, but the track record of the Birmingham hip looks hard to beat. With over 2,000 done over a period approaching ten years I would be inclined to go for that, unless there is a very good reason to the contrary. I had mine done by Mr McMinn at the Birmingham Nuffield last November (and I live in Kent, so had to travel). I see that the Glasgow Nuffield lists resurfacing as one of its services - is this where the non-Birmingham prosthesis is used? Guest guest
. I asked for a referral to Warrington, Oxford or Birmingham, as I know there are surgeons in each of these places ( I'm from Warrington, and my wife is from Oxford, so it would be easier for her to visit) but the Lothian Health Board referred me to Glasgow, as there appears to be a reluctance to send people to England from Scotland. I still don't have an appointment yet. How long have people had to wait? I called Mr Sherry's office in Warrington, and his secretary told me there was about a six month wait for an initial consultation, and up to two years wait for surgery. All this assumes I'm a suitable case for treatment, of course. Thanks, Dave Re: Newbie > Hi Dave > > Could you not be referred to someone (albeit South of the border) who > does use the Birmingham hip? Guest guest
>there appears to be a reluctance to send > people to England from Scotland. > Amazing. But presumably, if the Glasgow version falls into the " experimental " category, you could make a good case? There are are lots of stats, etc which might help argue the case in the MMT site (under " tell me more " ). > How long have people had to wait? Not sure. I had an insurance which covered private treatment. Tony said on the Totally Hip site that Mr Treacy at Birmingham had a 78 week waiting list at Birmingham. However Mr Treacy is part of the development team for BHR, so is likely to be much in demand. I imagine it's less elsewhere. Have you seen Totally Hip? It is at http://disc.server.com/Indices/8340.html

Guest guest
There was a subscriber named who had surface replacement at JRI in Los Angeles in early September. He is 18. That is the youngest I've heard of. Any younger and I think they'd be concerned that the patient's bones were still growing. - > I have been reading all the interesting info posted in this site. I will be having the lap RNY on 8/6/03 and am beginning to get a little nervous! I've been reading the posts here for a few months now and I think this is such a supportive site! It definately helps my anxiety when I read how well you all have done and I can really relate to all the feelings you other pre-ops have too! Take care, Jean

Guest guest
Hi Diane, Congratulations on your surgery! I live in Globe which is about 80 miles east of Phx. in a rural community. I am 33 years old, married and have 2 kids ages 6 & 2. I work part time as a nurse practitioner in an internists office. Who did your surgery? I am having mine with Dr. Juarez at St. Lukes. Hoping to have lap surgery. Did you have lap or open? Keep in touch. Jean

Guest guest
welcome, tanya. yep, i've heard of this as an alternative route to wls. actually, a good friend is considering going through " vocational rehab " , since her insurance comp is so arbitrary. lori h. > Hello everyone.
