Guest guest
My advice is to use your field experience to your advantage, but don't try to mamange the call from inside the center. That's a pit that some people fall into that make that transition. Another tidbit is to become a better listener. Being a good listener is imperative to being a good dispatcher. Add to that, when in doubt, take the most conservative approach. If you have any doubt as to the severity of a call, opt for the higher classifcation. Sometimes this may be driven by nothing more than the " feel " of what a caller says, and picking up on clues. I'm not suggesting you send the army ot every call - but on those occasional borderline cases it's a safer bet. Finally, best of luck. I answered my first call over 30 years ago and am greatful that I'm not doing it now!
Guest guest
, The most important piece of advise I can pass onto you, which I am sure you know. You can't take the job home with you or it will eat you up, and then your not good to yourself or the person in the field. This is something You can't learn nor can someone else teach it to you. It is something that you must accept and learn to deal one on one with. Tom East Central Illinois
