Guest guest
What do you all do about giving (or not) tuna to your kids? I was reminded of the potential concern when I saw last week's newspaper article that pregnant and breastfeeding mothers are now advised to take it easy on eating tuna because of the possibility of contamination. What do you think and what does research say? Many thanks, Abbie [ ] Digest Number 3525 =======================================================
Guest guest
I quit the day I found out that the fishing lobby had paid off the gov't to downplay the high risk of consuming fish. Most fish (including deepwater) are toxic with mercury, according to some data and studies I ran across several months ago. You may notice the figures they give for " safe levels " of consumption are the same for a 200 pound man or a toddler (doesn't this make you wonder?). I used to love fish, but I prefer being safe to sorry... Just my opinion (I don't remember what site I found the studies and data on). -Liz P
Guest guest
We eat no fish except salmon from Alaska. [ ] Digest Number 3525 > > > ======================================================= >
Guest guest
Hello Abbie, Salmon from Alaska ? What does that mean to you ? Does the word Alaska assures you, that there couldn't be any traces of mercury in that fish ? Salmons travel very far and those living in farms are treated with lots of chemicals, isn't that so ? Do they have to specify if this was a free living or a salmon that grows up in wildwaters but captured or farmed ? I just try to say that one can not globalize anymore and there still exists also tuna who was not exposed to mercury and it is not only how you chelate but also how to stay away from environmental exposure. Guest guest
In a message dated 3/13/2004 1:53:48 PM Pacific Standard Time, writes: I liken our treatment of AIH on a par with chemo drugs but of course at a much much lower dose. British members of our group often referred to the standard Prednisone/Imuran treatment as "chemo." I think our treatment IS "chemo" (chemotherapy) but in the U.S. the term isn't applied to it. Harper I took a diuretic yesterday, and last night, I was a basket case. Every time I moved, my legs would just cramp. Today, I am so dizzy I can't function very well. Any suggestion? I am going to call and make an appointment with the clinic today, Debby Debby, I think it's possible that you are short on potassium as a result of the diuretic. Really low potassium can be quite serious, as you probably know. Until you talk to a doctor (this being a weekend), could I suggest you eat a lot of bananas and apricots for their potassium? Not having any medical training, I hesitate to suggest you take any supplement unless you doctor suggests it. However, the banana/apricot route can't hurt. Harper Is an MRI pretty scary to have done? I am claustrophobic and I hate thinking of being closed so tightly in a space.Lyn from Ark. Lyn, I'm not claustrophobic, so I can't give you an answer that will fit your situation. However, I can say that I slept through mine, finding the gentle background noise very soothing. Harper I HAD A NEW MRI DONE AND THEY SAY THAT MY LIVER IS GETTING FATTY AND HAS MARKS ALL OVER IT. I AM SURE THAT THIS IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT AS WE ALL KNOW OUR LIVERS WILL GET WORSE ATTIMES.\MY QUESTION IS THAT EVERYTIME I AM LOWERED ON MY DOSAGE OR TAKEN OFF THE IMURAN OR PREDNISONE I HAVE A RELAPSE. DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE NEVER GONE INTO REMISSION? I GET CONFUSED ABOUT THIS. OF COURSE I HAVE ALOT OF CONFUSION LATLY AND AM GETTING WORSE ABOUT FORGETTING THINGS.IT'S A GOOD THING I HAVE SPELL CHECK OR YOU COULDN'T READ THIS.I AM SEEING NEW DOCTORS AND OF COURSE THEY ALL HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS ABOUT ALL MY MEDS. WELL ENOUGH YAKKING. I DON'T THINK I AM MAKING ANY SENSE BUT IF YOU UNDERSTAND THIS HELP ME.THANKS,LOST AND CONFUSED,BRENDA THE WV HILLBILLY , I'm no authority on this. Your doctors are the people to advise you, although you have the final decision on anything. However, I wonder why you are being told to lower Prednisone/Imuran if your liver numbers go up when you do. Many of us take Prednisone for life to avoid this happening. Most of us take Imuran for life. The forgetfulness could be a side effect of Prednisone, or it could be a result of ammonia build up that your liver can't process. You probably know that some of us develop encephalopathy from the ammonia. This kind of encephalopahty is treated with Lasix, which is a specialized laxative. You might want to make sure your doctors know you're worried about the forgetfulness. Best wishes. Harper Sandy, the more I think about it, the woman who gave you the hair dye probably was acting from the best of intentions. She found something that made her feel good and thought it would make you feel good, too. To get the dye and give it to you took some effort; she wouldn't bother doing it just out of rudeness. Only kindness would spur that gesture. She may not be thinking as well as usual, herself. harper
