I'd rather pay than have a traditional hip replacement. I will of course ask Dr. Mont's office if he would accept the 80% from the insurance as full payment. Often doctors will do that. Your insurance is likely to be entirely different than mine. BTW, I ran into a friend of mine in the grocery store 2 days ago and she knows Dr. Krakow! She has a very high opinion of Dr. Krakow based on the time he spent with her and the input he gave on her situation. Donna has a leg fracture that healed at a 10 degree angle causing a lot of stress on her knee. Some have told her to get a knee replacement. Dr. Krakow recommended to first have surgery to straighten the leg because with the 10 degree angle a new knee would just wear out fast anyway. He did talk to her about the possibility of going to Baltimore and having Dr. Mont do the new knee (when she has that part done). Entirely different situation than mine but interesting nonetheless. I mentioned to Donna that Dr. Krakow wrote a paper with Dr. Mont. I plan to make Dr. Krakow my local orthopedic doctor. Since my left leg is almost an >inch shorter than my right, I'm always curious to know whether anyone else >having resurfacing has a leg length difference and how much it was corrected >by the surgery. Also, did you have a spinal or general anaesthetic and how >did that work out? Glad to hear you're doing so well; it's very encouraging >and reassuring. My left (bad) leg is about 1/2 " - 3/4 " shorter than my right. I wear a lift in my left shoe. (For Buffalo area people, Hook Shoes is the place to go for special shoe needs.) I also wear orthotics because my feet pronate (flat as pancakes). The orthotics and leg lift help to reallign me from the bottom up. I get knee pain if I don't wear orthotics. When I was younger I walked better than I do now, but have always lurched at least a bit to the left. I hate to admit it but I didn't know about the leg length difference until recently and have only worn the leg lift the past few months. I wish someone had recommended it before as it helps my gait. I will of course ask Dr. Mont to lengthen my leg if at all possible. I wonder if I will be able to tie shoes with my new hip? I haven't been able to reach far enough to tie shoes for the past 3 years. I wear sneakers with velcro. BTW, I am being done on 1/17 (assuming my insurance clears). If you get a chance, stop by to say hello. My real name is Margaret Brent (aka Peggy). - Pearlz - scheduled with Dr. Mont on 1/17 ************** > To: surfacehippyegroups > Subject: five days post op m/m > > Hello all > > Just wanted to say hello . In fact, he was scheduled for surgery a day or so ago. I hope he is doing OK. He had his first one done just before Christmas. I expect Brad will be posting again in a week or so and will be able to answer questions about the bi-lateral.
