HTE can be set up to direct one single entry into 2 types of responses 0

police or fire or even 3 police, fire and ambulance.

In our center the call is routed to the appropriate dispatcher(s) based on event

type and location. The initial entry is made by the call taker. For a personal

injury auto accident, for example, a record is forwarded to law enforcement,

fire, and EMS.

Okay, I'm not a techie at all..but I will tell you what I know about our

CAD, New World.

If I enter a Personal Injury Accident, (PIA) the fire dispatcher can pull it

up and so can the LE dispatcher, both can dispatch off it at the same time.

It creates on main record, but each dept, be it fire, ems or LE is assigned

their own complaint or case number.

We actually are just now implementing a new protocol to do just this.

Before, whoever would get the call first would enter the call. Often, fire

call takers are also law call taking trained, so they would enter a law

call, too. On the law side, we have to transfer any medical stuff to EMSA,

our EMS. Fire has a monitor to listen to their calls and EMSA can print the

calls to fire so then fire would enter a call from that. However, it slowed

fire response times, so what they are doing is modifying the CADS entry.

For instance, a non-injury accident for us is entered as a 76. When there

is a fluid spill, fire has to go. So, there will be a new call type, 76F,

that will simultaneously enter a law and a fire call. Plus, we can access

the questions to ask for both law and fire in the CADS. This will speed up

fire response. So far, they are only implementing it for accidents, but

they will be looking at implementing it for other call types in the future.

It goes online Wednesday. It seems like it will work well. We have PSSI

CADS.
