Guest guest
, Kathy-- I had the same problem with dry, red patches on my face. I had mine on my cheeks and forehead. The only thing I found to alleviate this is to rub in a coating of petroleum jelly after washing my face before going to bed. It really helps. You could slather on a heavy duty moisturizer of your choice. I wear a light moisturizer in the daytime. I think it is an age issue--over 40, less natural oil in our skin. My grandma who passed away last year always took care of her skin--stayed out of the sun (she was VERY fair) and used moisturizer day and night. When she died at 91 she looked like she was under 60. Everyone commented what beautiful skin she had. She and my grandpa had a dairy farm and she worked hard every day and kept a huge garden that she canned and froze veggies and fruits from. She always wore a hat when she worked outside. I remember thinking how funny " tv women " in sitcoms looked (when I was growing up) going to bed with their hair in curlers and faces slathered with cream. NOW I know why. Guest guest
I'd be very happy is this is just an old age thing.. truly.. but I've not had great response, skin wise, to using lotions. It's still itchy and I need to get the dead stuff off.... I'll keep messing around with it though.. it could very well be an old age thing (I'm 47 for those that don't know) in combo with hypo... Yes, a good moisturizer is essential, no matter what skin type, but using petroleum jelly (vaseline) is NOT good for skin. It will collect in and clog pores. Products with mineral oil will too. I have problems with zits as well, so I definitely can't go that route. Only in the most severe cold or wind conditions can I use a product with vaseline in it. I just have to make sure to wash promptly on coming in out of the weather and reapplying something that is skin friendly. My dry patch problem started rather suddenly though and has gotten better with my dose increase, so I'm thankful for that for sure!! ) Kathy >^,,^< KitzCat146@... http://www.chaytongroup.com/modernbill/order/index.php?aid=ka081104 http://www.heartwarmers4u.com/members/?kitzcat kitzcat2001 on Yahoo Messenger kitzcat on MSN Messenger In a cat's eyes, all things belong to cats. - English Proverb __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I was only able to use "Marcelle" products on my face, very sensitive!!! Then I couldn't use it for the last while and my skin went bad so I tried Dove moisturizing cream and it works great. It is relatively inexpensive in comparison and this is the best my skin has been for a long time. Guest guest
Kathy- I you are acne prone petroleum jelly isn't a good choice for you, but it was recommended by my dermatologist. I have used more expensive night moisturizers and THEY made me break out. Cetaphil is supposed to be a good moisturizer--I use that for daytime and general use--hands, feet, etc.. Topper-- Your soup sounds great. I always do the same thing with thanksgiving turkey carcasses. Home made soup is SO good. Doreen
Guest guest
I'm using a store brand of liquid soap, compares to Caress. The difference it has made is outstanding. I was using a generic of Suave body wash... but it doesn't seem the have the same moisturizing capability. When dealing with lymphedema it's important to keep the skin soft, pliable and elastic to encourage and stimulate the lymphatic system to drain the fluid. If the skin becomes inflexible, stiff and rigid it doesn't provide the stimulation to the lymph nodes. AND, as said.... proper cleansing of the skin to help the skin stay healthy and not become cracked or dry is the best way to prevent cellulitis, and infection in the lymphatic fluid that can be life threatening.. it's what caused 's hospitalizations last year. Guest guest
Topper, could this be Sebborheic Dermatitis. Not sure I spelled that right. That sounds a like a description of that. Re: Re: Dry, Flaky Skin Okay.. lymph related.. but why such an isolated area, around my mouth and nose? Today my chin has decided to be crusty... I just scrapped a layer off it... and not it's not itchy any more... *sigh* Oh, hey.. did you catch the Russian study that 80% of the lymph patients they studied were also hypo?? It was posted over on the Lipo group... Topper ()
