Guest guest
Mike, I take 700 mg. after each meal (lunch and dinner). I think it helps with the digestion of protein which is a problem for many PWC's. Steve B. Guest guest
I take 2/500mg capsules 3 times a day after meals. This has helped me more than any other supplement that I've taken to date. I'm absorbing minerals and nutrients much better and I no longer has indigestion. Dr.Cheney rec's that you can take up to 9 capsules/day, if it burns when you take it then you are taking too much or you don't need it. Guest guest
Mike, I recently read on some website (didn't bookmark it so can't provide URL) two drs. were suggesting that you experimentally increase the number of tablets of Betaine HCl by one with each protein heavy meal. When you get to the point that your stomach has a slight burning sensation then back off the number of tablets by one for your next meal. If you do experiment, I would be interested in hearing your results. I have just recently started taking betaine HCl experimentally to see what effect it will have toward candida. For digestive enzymes, I use Metazyme, also by Metagenics. The Metazyme is taken in the middle of the meal; the Metagest, after the meal. Metagenics is Bland's company. Bland formulated the Ultraclear that Dr. Cheney uses. You can order these products from Feline Butcher (nutritionist) in Studio City. I was only taking at most 500 mg. per day, so no wonder I wasn't digesting my food properly. I have never noticed any kind of burning sensation, but I have noticed a lack of 'stomach sounds' after eating, which I am now beginning to realized may mean a lack of stomach acid or enzymes. I will gradually increase the betaine dose and report back. Mike

There are several formulations and the standard one is a big glutathione user (this is probably why it put me in bed for about 3 months- no kidding, this one product made me that ill). There is one for " imbalanced detoxifiers " that I (and probably others with glutathione deficiency) would probably do better on. The great smokies detox panel can show whether you are an imbalanced detoxifier.

Guest guest
Patti, >do you have any understanding as to why the betaine would make your child seizure? I don't have anything but a general idea. Andy gave me some feedback about acetylcholine pathways that has helped. Anything that we have tried that is supposed to help facilitate this has been a disaster. Choline was a choice that produced seizures - I related that to the soy component as she still is very 'milk sensitive.' However, a recent trial with choline CL gave her the same response; as did DHEA. She does ok with glycine. The DMG(which also provoked seizures initially) is ok now since we've been chelating and we use 125mg bid, probably not a weight appropriate amount for 130# but I've been hesitant to increase further; those others(betaine, choline) with more methyl groups are not ok. Maybe some of the chemists on board can give us a lay person response.
Guest guest
Hi Marcia, I'm jealous! I WISH I could gain 20lbs, or even 2! And I've been taking betaine HCL 4-5 caps with every meal for years. I have gained about 5 lbs in the last year, but I'm still about 20lbs under the ideal weight for my height. I don't think your weight gain is related to the betaine, unless of course you've gained it much, much faster than in the past...that's just a guess however. Dan p.s. maybe I should check out those " Enhanced Super Digestive Enzymes " ??? Do you take them right at the same time as the betaine, or do you wait until a little later during the meal? > > Hello all, > > About a week ago I gave myself the quicky stomach acid test (baking > soda in water, then see how long it takes to burp). Guest guest
Dear Dan, If I could send you my extra 20 lbs, I would! That'd solve it for both of us! Ha! As far as how I take it, I take 1 Betaine tablet, then a couple bites of food, then the 2 Enhanced Super Digestive Enzymes caps. No one told me to do this, but it seems to make sense to me to separate them a little with food. I get the digestive enzymes through Dr Amy Yasko's Holistic Health site. She has been quite specific about this product being better than other over-the-counter digestive enzymes. I think you can also get it through other online sources. Best wishes, Marcia on in Salem, Massachusetts

I also take my hard to digest supplements when I take the Betaine HCL. Then I start the meal, wait a few minutes, then take the digestive enzymes. This mimics the body's digestive process. Actually, the last step is when the pancreas releases a bicarbonate to nullify the enzymes. No one has ever told me to do this, so I haven't, but it makes sense.
