My question is what is the standard {if there > is one} for new trainees to be left alone? I've seen anywhere from 2 > months to a year. My new co-workers say anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks. > I really want to excel and do well, but this time frame thing is > hanging over my head and I feel like I have to rush. Thanks in > advance. The normal guidance I have seen is 6 months to 1 year. Even if the new dispatcher shows they " got it " and might be able to fly earlier, there are liability issues which may override. Generally from my experience it is about 1 to 2 years before you really get comfortable, where you don't " stare " at the 911 lights hoping they don't go off....) However, early in my career because of dispatcher shortages, I was let loose at about the 9 month mark. The funny thing is they wanted me to train a new dispatcher, a 50 year old guy who was a stock broker by trade. I think he was just in between jobs, because he left us after a few months. However, it was interesting to say the least. But I got through it. You are the best judge of " how you will do " . Do your best, ask questions, you'll be just fine! Good luck. tp
