Guest guest
My husbands gall bladder has been removed also, guess that is why they spread his Urso throughout the day…I didn’t know that. RE: Re: URSO Dose I don't believe it's quite that simple if your gallbladder has been removed ( " recycling throughout " ). From http://www.medicinenet.com/gallstones/page2.htm: Normally, bile acids that enter the small intestine from the liver and gallbladder are absorbed back into the body in the terminal ileum and are secreted again by the liver into bile. In other words, the bile acids recycle. In Crohn's disease, the terminal ileum is diseased. Bile acids are not absorbed normally, the body becomes depleted of bile acids, and less bile acids are secreted in bile. There are not enough bile acids to keep cholesterol solubilized in bile, and gallstones form. With the gallbladder " out of the picture " , the body cannot respond the same as before to a sudden influx of fats. The gallbladder is kind of a reservoir for bile (like the spleen is for blood), which responds to a fatty meal by releasing the stored bile all at once. For me (not having a gallbladder), it works better spreading the dose throughout the day. As noted above, those with Crohn's may have gallstone problems. A: A dutch group have shown that urso once a day is as effective as twice daily. The drug is recycling throughout and a 12 hour interval would be fine… Marc, Belgium CD'81-PSC'
Guest guest
Could someone link an article or a website where I could find some new information on high urso dose. I want to show this to my doctor. I am currently taking 900mg a day. I weigh 205 pounds. I am not sure what 25-30 mg/(kd.d) means. Am I on the right dose? Thanks for your help. Happy holidays to all Steve
