well it certainly won't hurt to go for a consult even if you decide not

to do it at least you'll have explored other options. I think you'll be all

for it though lol. Its so exciting when you go into that waiting room and

meet others and get talking and talk to the doctors. good luck that is my

mother's birthday Jan 24th. and won't be far off now.

I understand you. I am preop. I have had two knee replacements . I

have

chronic sciatica, and depression (on right now) - comes and goes. I have a

hard time with the holidays despite two depression meds. Sally

Just my two cents and have to make your own decision, but think about

how you feel now. Not only physically but mentally as well. Now imagine how

you are going to feel afterward. You won't believe it.

No, this is not too much to ask for, and I hope everything goes along

nicely

to get you to that point. Sally

Sue,

I just read your email about the bows in the MIDDLE.

I am preop, and

it made me look down at my sneakers. My bows are tied but each

very

definitely to the side. It is the belly that is getting in the

way. I had really

never thought about my shoe tying before. Now, I am.

i'm not worried some much about the surgery than i am

about the adjustment of food choices i'll have to make

after surgery. I never worried about protein or

calorie intake or any of that stuff.THis will be the

biggest challenge for me. Thanks

At your first visit, you are given a packet. In it is included the

blended

diet which we will eat (I am still preop) for one month to allow for

healing.

They also give us a shopping list. I also received this again the other day

at

the Preop Meeting. After the first month, it sounded as if they introduced

foods gradually, one at a time to rule out any intolerances. Quantity of

foods

eaten is a question mark for me. I don't know how you know how much

to prepare or what you will eat (not much). Also, you don't drink and eat

at

the same time. This, the dietician will go over with you.

Could a postopper from Dr. Thayer or Reines' office help us out as to

how

you know you are full on a blended diet? Do you just feel full? Are you

not

hungry at all? Any information would be helpful to and me. Thank you.

Sally and ,

I hate to say it but everyone is different. I can tell you about MY experience.

After the first few days home, I did start to get hungry. I ate anytime I felt

hungry, and felt “full” very quickly. (I’ll talk about that in a minute.”) No

matter how satisfied I felt, I was always hungry 2 hours later, like clockwork.

So I ate every 2 hours. Don’t worry. Even at this rate, you’re barely getting

any calories in at first. You may or may not feel hungry, but you MUST eat!

As for full. I didn’t feel full at first. My body had NEW signals which I had

to learn. Basically, I knew I’d had enough when I started to feel a little

flushed and spacey. I have no idea why, but for the first several weeks, that’s

how I knew I was full. At one point, I overdid it on pureed pasta (BIG

mistake), and felt very definitely full and bloated in the tummy area for a

full 24 hours. The problem was, I didn’t get the usual “full signals”, so I

just kept eating, even though it seemed like more than I’d been able to eat

thus far.

If you don’t feel full, measure out your portions and just eat that much.

Eventually, your body will adjust. Now, I get the same old full feeling as I

did pre-op, just much sooner!

i want to feel normal,(if there is a such thing)it's

not about how much weight i wanna lose it's about

feeling less tired and getting energy to do ,like i

stated before, the simple things that thinner people

take for granted. thanks

Exactly what is " normal " anyway? LOL!

I can relate. I didn't have this surgery for an image thing, but for ME.

My reasons were to avoid lots of further co-morbidities, fit into booths,

movie theatre seats, cars, wear a seatbelt, run, walk, bend over, sanitary

reasons that makes like MUCH easier when thinner, energy to keep up with the

" normal " people, less back pain, less foot pain, less expensive clothing

with a " trend " to them and not just a size/color, and to live a long,
