Guest guest
Welcome Nick. My son is 22 years old and in his senior year of college. I also worry about the insurance end of it as he will soon have to get his own. I have put that worry on the back burner for now as we have more pressing concerns with getting his UC under control and getting him off the prednisone. I think you will find answers to your questions here quicker than anywhere else. Ask anything you want , anytime you want . My son has a Dr. appointment this Tuesday and I am going with a list of questions and concerns that I got from this group that I would have never thought to ask on my own. That's a valuable thing to me. Best wishes to you Lee mother of Bill 22 UC/PSC 06/04 > > Thought it was about time to say hi. > > I was diagnosed with Crohn's colitis last spring, and > joined this group as a 'lurker' in August, after my > doctor told me he suspected I had PSC. Guest guest
Hi Nick; Welcome to the group, and for your remarkable obervation that " It's a good reminder to think about what my priorities really are and try to live each day to the fullest. " What a wonderful positive attitude! I wish you all the best with the Azasan therapy (for the benefit of those who may not know this, Azasan is a name for azathioprine). I hope that you don't mind me asking, but in the blood work they are doing in preparation for putting you on azathioprine, are they looking for thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT) activity? Several members of the group do take milk thistle. This supplement is discussed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ): http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/epcsums/milktsum.htm This group has also evaluated SAMe: http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/epcsums/samesum.htm Let us know if you have any questions. Best regards, Dave (father of (19); PSC 07/03; UC 08/03)
Guest guest
Hi Nick: I've asked three doctors about Milk Thistle and none have seen any evidence that it does anything. I sense they don't respect herbal medicines since there isn't as much "science" involved. One doctor said he had just read a study that showed no benefit. I decided not to take it feeling it is more of a rip off than anything else. That's not my advise, just what I am going with for me. All the doctors said it couldn't hurt. Does anyone know about cold weather and its effect on the liver? I am off to a 0 degree football game so it crossed my mind - I am not worried about it , just wondering. I know very cold weather is bad for people with heart conditions but I cant see why the liver should care. in Cleveland wrote: Hi Nick;Welcome to the group, and for your remarkable obervation that "It's a good reminder to think about what my priorities really are and try to live each day to the fullest." Guest guest
Nick, Welcome to the group - sorry to hear you're dealing with this, too. I'm also in Northern VA. If you ever have questions about which docs/hospitals to use or to avoid, feel free to email me off group. We (my wonderful care-giver husband and I) have sampled most in the area, and I have definite opinions about some of them...Good luck with the Chron's treatments. Happy Holidays Everyone!
