Kathy,

To some extent I know what your are experiencing. I had a 3 cc nodule removed from my thyroid in 1995. The needle biopsy was inconclusive, so they recommended removing it. While it was not maligent, it did have what they called premaligent cells. They only removed half of my thyroid at that time. Two weeks before the removal of this nodule, I had a brain tumor the size of a golf ball removed from behind my left ear. Thankfully, it was a nonmaligent tumor. At that time I was 36 years old and had two teenagers at home. It was without a doubt the scariest time of my life. Ten months ago I had the remaining half of my thyroid removed due to a 5.2 cc nodule on the front and a 2.2 cc on the back of the remaining gland. Again, the needle biopsy was inconclusive and there were premaligent cells. Both times, my doctor assured me that the majority of the time Thyroid Cancer is self contained and does not spread. He told me that if you had to have one of dreaded "C"s that this was the one you would hope for.

I hope you have a good support system at home. My husband and children were and are so great. I was and still am a very independent person, but I had to learn to lean on them and let them take care of me for while. I also have a very strong faith in God that I depend on daily. I also work with a great group of people who kept me laughing through all of it. They offered a great deal of support both before and after my surgeries. They provided my family with meals for two months following my first round of surgeries and a month after the last. With the support of everyone who loves you, including this group (I'm new to this group, but already feel their love and support). You will definitely be in my prayers between now and January 5.

Don't want to be here .....

but here I am ...Hi, My name is Kathy (39yrs old, 3 little boys) and I was diagnosed with Papillary in late November,04.I've recently joined this club and read a lot of posts which I thought were very helpful!!!As I'm seating here waiting for my TT in January,05, I can't help myself wondering what if it is spreading while I'm waiting.I realize that Thyca is a lazy kind of cancer and that it is slow in spreading. However, my mind wonders ...My question is this. Have any of you with a nodule less than 1cm had cancer actually spread beyond the thyroid gland????As my surgery date is getting closer, I am starting to get a bit more nerveous ... any encouragement is WELCOME :-)Thank you for listening/reading--Kathy
