Guest guest
What a relief to have found something that is a plausible explaination. I hope that this is the end of the behavior issues. I know that I have been beside myself when I've had sinus infections -- nasty, nasty stuff. You asked about kids communicating about pain. Aubrie sometimes does. She's got good communication skills. But-- she's got a very strange understanding of pain. I think something is wrong with her tactile system. When she was little-- like 2 or 3 yrs old-- she had a splinter in her foot. It was winter so I didn't see it as she went from socks to footy pjs. Then somehow I noticed this terrible red area. The doctor had to surgically (in the office) remove the foreign object from her skin. It was awful. But she hadn't told me that anything hurt. Same thing this year with a splinter in her knee that she didn't tell me about and wouldn't let me touch cuz she insisted it didn't hurt. Finally, I got it out. When she had her hip surgery in Aug, she always insisted that she was a happy face on the pain scale. We could tell the pain meds were wearing off when she'd get crabby, but she never would say that anything hurt. Immediately after surgery, she insisted that all areas of her skin felt the same when the nurse tried to tell how her epidural was doing. Throughout the next several days, she insisted that her skin felt the same all over. The way we knew the epidural was wearing off was when she said she had to go potty. Sometimes she will say her ear hurts. She can tell me when her tummy hurts. But she definitely does not process tactile input the way the rest of us do. She screams as if it truly hurts to have her hair shampooed or her nails clipped. It baffles me. I really hope you are on to something with Peyton. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
Wow, I am glad you figured it out. Poor guy. Even though Patty was totally verbal she never complained of illnesses in any area of her body. We only knew she was getting ill by her behaviors. When she did get cranky, moody or just beligerant one way to tell if Patty has a sinus infection is by smelling her breath. We would smell her ears for an ear infection. You can tell the smell sometimes. And when she had a sinus infection she also used to make this gross sucking sound. She can somehow suck it out of her sinus through her palate. Sounds disgusting but it works. We just took Patty to her ENT today. Patty had said her ears were itchy and she couldn't stand having her hearing aid mold in. Wouldn't you know she has an infection. Patty is 20 and totally verbal and with it yet she still isn't clear about her health. Putting the drops in her ears are another story. She makes it seem as though I was putting fire into her ears. The infection doesn't bother her as much as the drops. Bonnie, mom to Kris 22, Patty CHARGE 20 and wife to
