Guest guest
Stef Are you aware that some insurance groups target those who are difficult to insure? They are worth checking into even as a stop gap measure. Typing in high risk _______ insurance in almost any search engne will give you options to consider. Guest guest
Stef, Have you raised the issue with the HR people at work? Seems a bit strange that an application for coverage under a group policy would be outright denied. I would not have been as surprised if you had said you were accepted but rated up. As for the Life insurance, I would think you could find a Term Life provider who didn't require a medical exam. Term Life doesn't build any cash value - when your beneficiary gets the proceeds, it the face value of the policy only - but they typically have a lower premium. They often have one or two year waiting periods before benefits will be paid. BTW - good information for all: When talking to an insurance carrier, choose your words carefully - it makes a difference. For instance, if you think a claim that was denied should have been paid, and you call to complain, the carrier's only obligation is to listen to your complaint and note it. On the other hand, if you tell them you disagree with their decision and you are filing an appeal (and follow it up with a letter that uses that word) it sets in motion a regulatory timeline that requires them to respond in a set period of time. Always get the name of anyone you talk to at an insurance carrier, record any conversation if possible (it's legal as long as you tell them you're recording ) and if it's an important point, follow up the telephone conversation with a note summarizing your understanding of the conversation. Also, remember that for group insurance plans, from the insurance carrier's perspective the employer is the customer, not the employee. So if you can get the HR people to go to bat for you with the insurance carrier it will carry a lot more weight.
