According to Phonak's page on the MicroLink

http://www.phonak.com/index.cfm?article_id=1981

The Siemens Prisma 2 SP+ and the Prisma P both say: " Hearing Instrument

needs modification through Siemens repair service. "

You'll find more info on the MicroLink here:

My son (age 10) tried the Siemens Prisma BTE with a Microlink about a year

ago and we could not get it to work. He had a terrible problem with an

intermittent hissing noise. We were on a trial with the Prismas...we ended

up sending them back and going with Phonak Claros. These of course were

compatible with the Microlink which is also a Phonak product. My daughter

(age 7 at the time) ended up keeping her Prismas because they were compatible

with her " wired " FM and we were had already completed her trial period and

purchased them before we realized they would not be compatible with a

wireless FM (which she would have gotten in 4th grade). So now she is stuck

on a wired system. :-( I am not sure what progress Siemens has made on the

incompatibility problem. You might want to check into that.

One suggestion a parent gave to me when we were ready to buy new hearing aids

for our kids was to do it during the school year. That way they can try them

with the FM in the classrooms, hallways, etc. That turned out to be very

good advice!!!

Good Luck!

The circuitry for the Prisma is similar to that for the Music that my

daughter wears. We had to send both hearing aids back (took two weeks!

even though we tried to expedite it and called daily). They changed out

the case near the battery to allow the boot to mate. The boots worked

fine, but there is one major problem.

The Prisma and Music aids (not the Signia) have the direct audio input

from the FM inserted after the circuitry does the compression on the

hearing aid microphone input. This means that IF you have compression

on (we've used 2x's and 4x's but never 1x's), then the sound from the

HA microphone will squashed into a narrower band of loud to soft. BUT

the input from the FM will not be compressed/squashed at all. This

was very bad for my daughter. Her hearing aids are all by maxed out

and the FM signal was over the max and sounded awful! If you use

FM only or microphone only, you could have one program for the HA

and one program so the FM isn't too loud. But you loose the soft

sounds with the FM by lowering the programmed volume. That's why they

use compression in the first place, to make more of the sounds fit

into the narrower band that our kids have between threshold and too loud.

Bottom line, we had to give up. My daughter now uses a toteable FM

(it sits on the floor, a chair, or on her desk). Not a good solution.

We are considering the Oticon super power digital as a replacement that

DOES boot correctly to an FM.

You can also call Tom Powers at Siemens (head of engineering) and ask

if they have figured out a solution yet. Its been a while since I

called regularly to ask. I'm afraid I've just given up. (Of course

if your child's program doesn't use compression, there is no problem.

The FM input and the HA input will be treated the same - no compression!)
