I am so sorry for you and your dad. While I personally don't know

where to direct you , someone else here might have some suggestions

for you. My prayers are with you,

Lee

Cancer of any sort is always incredibly distressing and devastating

news. I understand your anguish, as I lost my own dear father 3 years

ago to lung cancer. The best advice I can give you is to simply support

him unconditionally in whatever direction he wants to take at this

point. Let him set the pace and the tone.

Liver cancer is, unfortunately, one of those really tough ones, even

without the PSC factor. If caught early, they can sometimes remove the

portion of the liver with the tumor in it. If it's already in late

stages, there's often nothing else which can be done. Do you know if

it's primary (started in the liver) or secondary (spread from cancer

which started elsewhere in the body)? What stage do the drs. say he is

in?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Everyone in this wonderful

support group is always in my daily prayers, and so now you are too.

Please keep us posted, and don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Regards,

Carolyn B. in SC

, I know others have already given you some information. As

you've heard, liver cancer can be very difficult to treat. We have a

14 yr old young friend who was diagnosed with liver cancer and was

told if it had metastisized (spread outside the liver) that he would

not be a candidate for a transplant. His had not spread and he is

doing well post transplant. This is only one factor in whether the

docs decide he can be transplanted or not. I know Mayo is known for

outstanding medical care; a call to the doctor discuss your father's

case may help. Others in this group can give more insight on where you

can gather more data.

I'll keep you and your family in our prayers.

Tammy, wife of Rick, age 49, AIP
