Can any dentist do the mercury removal from the teeth. Or do you have

to go to a special one. Someone told me they went to a special one

because it is very dangerous to remove them. Need to know before I

talk with my dentist.

Thanks, Pam

Hi Pam,

the danger is that drilling the amalgam out means lots of

mercury flying around.

another point is that doing fillings with (white) composite

is more technically difficult to do well, so you do ideally

want a dentist who is experienced with this.

what matters is how the procedures are done. So, in theory,

any dentist could do a good job IF they follow adequate

precautions.

Now, what are " adequate precautions " ?

Opinions differ, of course.

I don't have much opinion -- I didn't really research this much,

myself. There are links to about 5 or so " amalgam replacement

protocols " , here:

/files/HOW_TO_find_doctor

Look in the section about dentists.

As I say there, I am not saying these protocols are " correct " .

I just offer them as information.

Andy says to get a dentist who will use a rubber damn and

give you separate oxygen to breath.

The dentist I went to (who is a non-amalgam dentist) used a

rubber damn and a special suction (an assistant stood there the

whole time suctioning), but not separate breathing oxygen.

The file above can also be used to find non-amalgam dentists

and biological dentists, etc. Again, up to you to evaluate

these people.

You'll also have to judge whether the dentists' attitude matters

to you. It did to me. That is, I go to an amalgam-using dentist

who also places a lot of composite, and has done both kinds in

my mouth. I think he would have been willing to replace my

amalgams, but I chose not to do it this way.

your mileage may vary.

hope this is a start.

best wishes,

Moria

Are you in the United States or elsewhere?

Go here:

/files/HOW_TO_find_doctor

Look for the section about DENTISTS.

There are links to lists of dentists. These are dentists who

are non-amalgam or " biological " dentists. Look for those

located in your area. Call them. Ask around -- ask other

" alternative " practitioners of any kind. Find dentists who

state they do not use amalgam. They will have a better

attitude LOL.

I have had this done, many people have. The fact that this

dentist says he has not heard of it means nothing.

best wishes,

Moria

Important to go to a mercury-free dentist IMO because if the dentist still uses

mercury he or she doesn't undersatnd it's toxic and therefore won't be careful

to avoid further exposure or make sure to get it all out. Also, it takes more

skill to place composite so you want someone with training and experience.
