Guest guest
Hi Doris; Sometimes together with arthritis comes an inflammatory skin disease called psoriasis. Maybe your doctors have been concerned about this? Considering that you have been diagnosed with arthritis, they have probably been asking you about rashes to see if you may have signs of psoriasis. Here's an article on psoriasis: http://www.dermatology.org/skincare/psoriasis/psorhand.html The combination of arthritis and psoriasis is known as psoriatic arthritis: http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic918.htm The arthritis associated with psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease is sometimes grouped in the diseases called " Spondyloarthropathies " ... " a cluster of interrelated and overlapping chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases that primarily include ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, and the arthritis associated with psoriasis and inflammatory bowel diseases " : Khan MA. Update on spondyloarthropathies. Ann Intern Med. 2002 Jun 18;136(12):896-907. PMID: 12069564. This does not mean that you have psoriasis. Rather, it means that it would be good to discuss your itchy rashes with your doctor(s). Only they can do a diagnosis of this kind! Based on their diagnosis, they may be able to give you medications to help control the rashes. Best regards, and Happy Holidays Dave (father of (19); PSC 07/03; UC 08/03) > Has anyone had a problem with an itchy rash & bruising? It just seems to me that that topic was discussed a long time ago. I know one of my doctors always asked me if I had a rash but I can't remember which one. I'm hoping it doesn't have anything to do with PSC or UC. I keep thinking it will go away but I have had it for 3 weeks. Happy Holidays & my prayers will always include this group. Guest guest
Yes, and yes. My itchy rash was diagnosed as eczema, now controlled with just lotion. I also easily bruise (last 10 years or so), but that also might be and age/genetics thing (my mother has always easily bruised). My count of autoimmune conditions is now 5, going to 6 (UC, PSC, eczema, asthma, degenerative vertebrae, starting arthritis).
