Guest guest
Vicki, Thank you Thank you Thanks you!!!!! I was feeling very alone in this! It's much harder when you feel hungry and you live in fear that you will blow out your new stomach if you eat anything. Last night I ate half a Tuna sandwich and it was the most wonderful thing I have eaten so far! I felt full for a couple of hours (with no stomach pain) and it was the most satisfying experience so far!!!! Once again, thanks for letting me know.... Hey by the way.... How much are you down???? Guest guest
Kathy-- I think everyone has their own tolerance levels for food, and each one needs to find what is comfortable. I didn't stay on liquids for 6 weeks, and felt much more comfortable. It's all trial and error. But there's no point in making yourself miserable either by denying yourself or beating yourself up because you think you're failing at this. Look at your weight loss. That's no failure. So you must be doing something right. You go Girl! Katy Musolino
Guest guest
Kathy, I had my surgery six months ago. I think I was the first on DrR herd complaining of feeling terribly hungery. I think only about 2% of the pts report feeling hungry after this surgery. I felt like such a failure thinking I was suppose to stay on liquids for 6-8wks , and I couldnt even last 3 or 4 days. I began eating very early. I even ate a few small bites of a baked potato while in the hotel (just 3-4 days post op) By 1 week or 10 days after surgery I was eating all kinds of soup, mac & cheese, spaghetti O's etc. By 2-3 weeks I was eating anything I prepared for the family, but in small amounts. So, you are not alone-- I too was hungry. At 07:15 AM 6/18/99 -0400, you wrote: >From: MoShel30@... > >Kathy, >I am glad that your back and doing well! Guest guest
Thanks Katy! The reinforcement I get from this site and all my new friends is wonderful! It's early in Alaska and I just finished my breakfast of 1/2 cup OJ (still trying to get some juice) and 1/4 cup lowfat cottage cheese. I'm stuffed! Ha ha! Guest guest
Kathy-- Rick eats cottage cheese with a little crushed pineapple in it, which he really enjoys. I'm not real fond of cottage cheese, but it sounds like a good protein source if you like it. Katy
Guest guest
Kathy, I am 6 months post op an I have lost 90 lbs. I am 5'11'' I was 320lbs when I had the surgery, now at 230lbs I am a size 18/20 and loving it. I don't think I hurt myself by eating early, I also think that my stomach might be a little bigger than some patients because I feel that I can eat quite a bit more than many others who have had this surgery. I eat until I am comfortable, not painfuly over full, so I don't think I have streched my stomach. I really can't complain since I am losing weight and feeling great. I have noticed I haven't lost as much as others who had their surgery around the same time I did. I have not had any problems eating or digesting any foods, so I consider myself fortunate. I now eat what I feel are small to average size meals, but like my children, I find that I am hungry again 2-4 hrs latter. I have also noticed that my tastes have changed from eating foods that are high in simple carbohydrates and loaded with fat to complex carbs rich in fiber and nutrients. Being a dietitian has helped me in making better food choices.
