Guest guest
, My daughter who has CHARGE had 2 fundoplications(one was at birth and the other was when she was about 10 months old, the first came unwrapped)but was a success. Also my older son who is 14 just had to have a fundoplication back in June. He was diagnosed with GERD when he was 8 and had been suffering for quite sometime. He was on prevacid, prilosec, Zantac, and Nexium. Since the surgery, he has been doing well. I feel like the surgery was a big relief and definetly no more relux issues. Good luck tomorrow with the surgeon and if I can be of any help, please feel free to email me..... Tia
Guest guest
It can be...My son's surgery took 4 1/2 hours and he is basically a healthy child. Just make sure that the surgeon goes over everything with you. Everything went well after surgery and no complications. My daughter's surgery went well also but now that was almost 16 years ago . Her first nissen came unwrapped due to her wretching afterwards. It must have been a loose wrap so she had to have it done again and we have had no problems with it since. I think if your son is having alot of reflux and the medicines aren't working, surgery is most likely. My son developed ulcers in his esophagus and the dr. told us he could not stay on these meds long term. Tia

Guest guest
, It is complicated in that you are altering their anatomy and there is a 30 % failure rate up front (so my docs told me). In our case, Kennedy was two weeks in hospital for surgery & post op time, it wasn't an overly lengthy or difficult recovery, although they are all different. I have heard tell of it being done laparascopically, that might be something to ask about.
