Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your cough. I had it for about three weeks and had to get an antibiotic. I wish I could tell you something good to get but I did not have any luck with anything. Hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
Bill, you for one should know-- there is nothing like a dumb question! I first off, gargle with warm salt water- it is natural, and sometimes can really help.I'd also add zinc and vitamin C. The triminic cough suppressant works well, or any cough suppressant. Hope some of these ideas help, Bill. Feel well my friend. Guest guest
Honestly depends on the type of cough. Is it a dry or "moist" cough? Guest guest
Bill I would be very careful about over the counter meds. You might want to check with your dr or at least ask the pharmacist if what you want to take will interfere with any of your other meds. I will keep you in my thoughts.......... Guest guest
Robitussin, as Dana suggested.. but I'm pretty sure that you want the DM version... check the label.. it should have an Expectorant, and/or a Cough Supressant. If you are having spasms of coughing, the Cough Supressant will prevent some of that, but the Expectorant is really really important if you have a dry cough that produces nothing but the spasms of coughing.... The Expectorant will loosen the congestion and make the Cough Productive while the Supressant makes it a bit easier to cough without convulsing with coughing... You don't want to Supress a dry cough without Expectorant, as you could create the situation where Pneumonia could set in very easily.. and with our fairly sedimentary lifestyle.. this would be much easier to do than an very active person. I'm not a real advocate of alcohol of any type.. however... Blackberry is a great cough syrup... One Tablespoon.. no more... every four hours or so... but just the tablespoon... It will definitely warm and soothe a scratchy raw throat that follows the coughing spell.. and for some reason, controls them as well.. A cup of Hot Tea.. with Honey also seems to help.. or Lemon & Honey.. tells me of a home remedy his mother used when they were kids, and money wasn't abundant, but that worked extremely well.... (personally I think it "scared" the cough out, rather than cured it.. lol)... His mother would chop up an onion to a minced stage.. put those in a bowl, ... (oops.. this may not work for you... cause I have no idea how Splenda would work).. She pour a liberal amount of sugar over the onions. Place a saucer over the onions & sugar mixture, but right side up as if it were going to hold a cup.. Then place something inside the saucer to create pressure on the Onion mixture.... let it sit for a few hours.. it will create a syrup type substance... It worked when he had the Croup when he was a child.. (he had the Croup all winter long off and on)... He still remembers it and will tell you that it was some nasty tasting stuff... but that it worked very well. |}onna Nasty Cough I have a dumb question I have had a nasty cough now for a week and I was wondering if any one has a good suggestion for an over the counter med that might help. Guest guest
I did fine on Mucinex, but there are several varieties. I myself would be inclined to consult my physician and be examined if I had a nasty cough which was not usual for me. love, n, ever cautions, medically speaking, sort of > > > > > > > Chuck got sick on Musinex. Guest guest
LOLOL That's an old and true remedy of your MIL's. Well, close. Honey is great for a cough (and sore throat), so it's usually honey and onion... and other ingredients can be/are added. Cherry bark? Not sure on that one. Slippery Elm, maybe? But Honey and onion for sure as the basis. Splenda, etc., just won't coat or relieve the way the honey would. Honey and lemon are my picks, too. Often, when I'm sick (cough, chest cold, sore throat, and so on), I'll take a fresh lemon and make a tea, then add the honey. Ahhhh. This is in addition to the herbal teas, too.
