Guest guest
Both my kids have had the peeling nails problem-- when I put them on EFA's, the peeling tapered off. I am reading a book on fibromyalgia where they talk about the nails peeling like sheets of mica, and that is what my kids fingernails tend to do. Guest guest
I take EFA's daily, and have for sometime, yet the nails are suddenly peeling. I've never had this problem before. They are also chipping and breaking easier. They only grow a bit, and then either peel or break. a a, mom to Alec 8.4 (Dyslexia), 6.7 (Asperger's), and 4.

Guest guest
Ann 's doctor check's the nails. I think 1 is for circulation in the finger's and another to see the color of them. 's finger nail's use to be so brittle. She started use a nail hardener which has helped. For Medical reason's the nail's can tell alot. As I have noticed my hubby's doctor will do the same thing to his. 's Rheumy also looks in the mouth to see what that look's like since kid's with JRA do tend to get mouth ulcer's. I will ask next time we go. Robbin
Guest guest
I don't know about peeling nails, but I do know the rheumy's have always checked for pits in his nails. That is a sign of psoriatic arthritis. Michele ( 18, pauci & spondy) Peeling Nails? I thought I recall someone here talking about the significance of looking at a child's nails? I've noticed that my daughter's nails are peeling very badly - both her fingernails and her toenails. As I've mentioned, we are still waiting for a diagnosis. I just thought I'd check here to see if anyone thinks there a significance of peeling nails. Thanks always for your insight! am (mom to Layla, almost 2!, still suffering from periodic fevers)

Guest guest
The mouth and the nails show signs/ symptoms of anemia. As many of you know Anemia is one of the common problem for us folks with RA. Don't be alarmed at what the doctors look at or do... They have all sorts of tricks, that help them diagnose and treat many problems. Pete Re: Peeling Nails? Ann 's doctor check's the nails. Guest guest
Hi am, I'm sorry you are still in purgatory with Layla. As far as the nails go, I don't know about splitting, but any pitting in the nails can be a sign of psoriasis. When the pitting grows out to the end, does it cause splitting??? I don't know. I hope you figure it out. Stacia and Hunter 9 systemic, iritis
Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your replies. Psoriasis is what I was thinking of - but I looked into it and I don't think its likely since the one symptom she doesn't have is any arthritis (from what we can tell). But we have an appointment with her rheumatologist next week and I will make sure they take a look. I'm not sure what pitting in the nail is? They just seem to be super soft and peeling. I'm thinking it may be anemia as someone mentioned. She had been anemic and we increased her iron and she was better so we decreased it again. Maybe she's anemic again. I'm going to ask the doctors to do a blood work up next week so we can see how she's doing. Thanks again for everyone's help. This group is always full of information! am (Mom to Layla, almost 2!) > Hi am, > > I'm sorry you are still in purgatory with Layla. Guest guest
am, we have a young fulla here who has Psoriatic JIA, and he always has his nails checked by the Rheumy. Isn't it a sign of calcium deficiency- soft and peeling nails? Bayly is iron-deficient anaemic, but has never had troubles with his nails (except he won't let me cut 'em!)
