Guest guest
Hi Pam, I just wanted to put in a vote for the Ukraine. I've been there and the people are so wonderfully friendly and nice. And the kids are adorable!!!! (Of course I think that most places I go!) My dh and I were planning to adopt from the Ukraine and have friends that adopted from there, too. It's just south of Russia. I don't know what you look like but most of the kids there are Caucasian and very fair. When I was there 10 years ago, these big bows were in for little girls - all these cute little blond girls with their hair tied up - they were so cute! Our friends adopted a baby girl (blond hair/blue eyes) and a 4 year old boy (brown hair/ not sure about his eyes). They went over to adopt a baby girl and decided after all the hassle and IF problems they might as well adopt 2 so poof - instant family! The boy had some problems at first, but he's doing fine now. Well, enough about that. I've also been to China and they have adorable little girls to adopt, too! But I understand about wanting the child to look like you. Well, just thought I'd pipe in since you were talking about the Ukraine. Wishing you the best. If I remember correctly the Ukraine also has a lot of Russian Jews. I think you mentioned before that you're Jewish. Good luck! Joleen
Guest guest
Hi Pam, I just wanted to let you know that we are well on our way to adopting in Russia. The agency we are working with works with the Foundation. The Foundation is or will shortly be accredited in Russia. Once they are accredited, you will only have to make one trip to Russia of about 6-10 days in duration. I think our foreign fees may be a little higher because of the Foundation involvement, but the babies I've seen come out of their orphanages have been very healthy and only slightly developmentally delayed. I am told that 65% of the foreign fee that the Foundation charges goes back into supporting the orphanges. Good luck on whatever you decide to do! Please feel free to contact me if you want an " adoption buddy " ! Barbara
Guest guest
Barbara I think I am either going to call or e-mail the agency we are going through. I think they are or are almost accredited. I think I remember reading something about that on their web site. Thats cool to know. I really only want to make one trip. Where are you in your process? How long is it going to take to adopt? I am eager to hear all about it. Pam
Guest guest
Hooray for Ukraine! I was born in Kiev, the capital, and spent the first 12 years of my life there. I have many pictures of me with big white bows in my hair! Everything you say is true! My childhood friends have their babies, and they are all adorable. a > Hi Pam, > > I just wanted to put in a vote for the Ukraine. Guest guest
Pam We have sent in our INS forms and been fingerprinted there as well as getting fingerprinted at the Sherriff's dept for our home study. I have filled out tons of forms and sent away for birth certificates and marriage licenses. Also, we have had to have 4 friends fill out reference forms. Next week dh and I go to the doctor and get our medical forms filled out. Basically, they are looking to make sure we won't drop dead the day after we adopt!! What I don't understand is why we need to submit birth certificates and medical reports for my daughter (she's almost 3), but we have to. After we turn in our medical reports, the home study begins!! We expect to be in Russia sometime in January or February and to freeze our butts off!! My family is of Jewish Russian decent, too, so I understand the connection you feel. It feels right to me, too. Who knows, maybe I will actually adopt a distant relative!! Keep me posted on your progress! Barbara Re: Pam! Barbara I think I am either going to call or e-mail the agency we are going through. Guest guest
Barbara That is so cool. We have a lot in common. This will be great to go through the process together. We have a couple at our temple who adopted a daughter and then a couple of months ago a son from Korea. I think I will ask him what local agency he used for the home study. I am so excited. On www.fertilethoughts they have an international adoption board. I really like it. It is unlike any board I have ever been on. It is so positive and up beat. Everyone is getting a baby. Its not like infertility. No tests or AF's to talk about. Its a nice change of pace. Lets keep in touch. My e-mail is kramer@... Pam
