Guest guest
We have done two rounds of DMPS. Now, I have found a website for a Special Foods Comprehensive Program that claims to have a great recovery rate for autistic kids. Can anybody tell me more about this program and experiences? They don't want you chelating while doing their protocol. Thanks, Beth

I did that diet for 4 months about 3 years ago. My son did not tolerate most of their foods either. I had better success with enzymes and chelation. Your experience may be different. Guest guest
My problem with the Special Foods Diet is that so much of that stuff comes from South American countries and it is not organic, meaning it gets treated with stuff that is so toxic it's not even allowed on US produce. I don't think it's good to expose our kids to that stuff. I asked them about this years ago when we tried the diet and I was told something like that they were *better* about regulating herbicides etc. down there. Not! Thallium came up high on my daughters' first urine metals test. (after she had been on Special Foods) I was told that this was rat poison used in crops in South America. I can't imagine where else she might have gotten it. FWIW Marisol
Guest guest
Dear Beth, We turned to the Special Foods Diet when we realized our then 14 month old daughter was allergic to or intolerant of nearly every food we tried. We found the diet to be extremely expensive. She would not eat many of the foods on the diet, and eventually ended up rejecting most of them. We ended up using a few foods on the diet and finding a few on our own that were available in local stores. While on the diet, her physical symptoms(like eczema) did greatly improve. Her sensory and behavioral symptoms remained little changed. The diet required that we remove all supplements except calcium. the results were a tremendous exacerbation of her gut bug problems. We returned to supplementation pretty quickly when we realized what was happening. We are now chelating and feel that this may be the only way to finally reduce or eliminate her allergies and eventually achieve recovery in other areas as well.
