Guest guest Posted December 13, 2004 Report Share Posted December 13, 2004 Sharon here from West Oz, ISL/Gestuno is used primarily at WFD (World Federation Deaf) Conferences that attract people who are Deaf from all areas of the globe. It is largely based on ASL (fingerspelling is used sparingly, but when necessary it is one hand manual, eg. proper nouns/names) ISL is concept based, but very rich in it's use of placement, body language and facial expression. I believe most ISL interpreters are Deaf themselves, using a platform interpreter in their native sign to then interpret into ISL.
