> The dentist yesterday pointed out that Aubrie will likely need a palate

expansion

Hi -

Quick $0.02 here :o)

had a very very high palate, and even has one adult tooth (the fourth from

the center with the " fang " like appearance) that erupted fairly smack in the

middle of his palate. One orthodontist shared with me that this is plight that

children who mouth breath have. When a child mouth breathes, their tongue rests

in the bottom of their mouth. If they close their mouths, the tongue usually

thrusts into the roof of the mouth behind the front teeth moving the adult teeth

into proper position and widening the palate.

My friend's medically unremarkable daughter had a very very high palate that

they assumed was the result of thumb sucking. It is actually from mouth

breathing. She has made a conscious effort to close her mouth, and her palate

has lowered considerably. (Not to mention her mouth shape is more normal -

before her teeth were configured like a pirhanna - with her back teeth closed

tight her front teeth made an open " O " shape)

The orthodontist wanted to wire the errant tooth to 's twelve year molars

and pull it into place along with a palate expander, but 's molars are

submerged in alot of gum tissue, so we would need to wait. That was over a year

ago. I thought, it 's worth a try, and I asked to consciously close his

mouth, place his tongue behind his front upper teeth and let it rest there. He

has almost moved the errant adult tooth to it's proper place, his palate is

significantly lower and hi has far fewer incidents of nasal reflux.

It might be just a coincidence or luck - but I thought it was worth sharing....

best to all-

Yuka-

Wow-- definitely something to consider and work on. I doubt that I

could get cooperation from Aubrie on this now, but it's something I need

to remember in the future. Thanks!

With my friend's daughter - she was only six at the time I learned all

this - so we just reminded her (nicely) to close her mouth - natural

positioning did all the rest! :o)

I will begin to work on the mouth closing. I remind her sometimes, but

it's just cuz most people don't sit with their tongue on their lip. So

now that I have another reason to remind her, maybe I can be more

diligent. Thanks again...
