Guest guest
Hi Sharon, My daughter (diagnosed HFA) has been touching her tongue and saying it itches. She's 5 3/4 and has never done this until recently. She doesn't have any loose teeth. We haven't been able to correlate it to anything, so I'll be interested in anything you find out. Guest guest
Does he chew the fleshy part at the base of the thumb? In reflexology that relates to the digestive system. Wonder if he would let you massage that area. I've also heard that massaging that area helps relieve some headaches. Just a thought. Guest guest
Ethan has gone through a phase where he has an urge to grasp at his tongue with his hand-- it's like he's licking his palm, but it is more tic-like-- I sense that he is touching his tongue just for the sake of touching it, and he alternates between saying his hands are too dry or his tongue feels funny (when asked to give a reason why). The only thing I can think of it being linked to is yeast flareups because it comes/goes when those happen. W > My 4 year old has recently been Chewing his hand and touching his tongue > quite a lot. Guest guest
Sharon, I can think of a couple of thing that may be going on.If he is not taking Taurine You might what to think about supplement this important Amino Acids I beleave a lack of taurine makes our kids feel like they have to be doing something (stimming/ chewing) If you are not also using a complete L-form amino acid supplement I would remind you that these are the building blocks of every function of our bodies. Your son may be feeling his tongue for the first time- if he is non- verbal this would be a good sign that someday he will be able to form words----Hip Hip Hor -Ray I have been told that my son still has yeast problems at his nearve endings I am checking this out now and have no other info now but will post when I find out more. Hope this Helps Ann

We've been swimming a lot @ the local > YMCA i wonder about the chlorine? Chlorine is used to kill bacteria in public pools, so it can kill bacteria in your child's gut, especially if he tends to drink the water. This can contribute to a yeast issue. Or conversely, it can kill some but not all bacteria, and contribute to BAD bacteria overgrowing. So yes, definitely consider a yeast/bacteria issue. Guest guest
we have that problem, I don't know very much about suppliments but I can tell you what we do when this comes up every now and again, we use grapenuts, baby chew toys, also the hospital has this foam like on a stick, they have it in case someone is seizing, so they can bite it, I dunno what it's called but he loves it and he can't bite thru it, or a nuke brush they sell those in therapy catalogs... Guest guest
Mathew's hand biting is mostly sensory. Sometimes he'll get carried away and break the skin. We gave him a tooth brush to chew on, and he's a happy camper now.....I'd check with your son's speech and occupational therapist for ideas. Guest guest
Mercury toxicity can also make one more reactive to chlorine.
