This arrangement is unethical in the state of Georgia based on our practice

act. I am not an attorney, but from a legal perspective it would seem that

if a physician gets paid for a referral, it should be illegal. This company

states that it is legal; however, their web site is fairly vague and does

not include any specific information or references (they don't even list a

company address or phone number). They may have found a loophole in the

law, but you can put lipstick on a pig...

A local PT bought into some sort of franchise for this group. Believe it or

not, I found out about this from multiple phone calls I received from

concerned physicians in the area (orthos, PMR, PCP) who were actually

appalled by the letter and contract proposal that they received from this

individual! That was an unexpected " breath of fresh air. " My clinic is

actually busier than ever despite the heavy marketing by MDPT Partners. We

have a solid reputation and have PT's with a lot of specialty certifications

(TMJ, vestibular, manual therapy, trigger point needling, SCS, etc).

Although MD's would not mind having more money in their pockets, I think

that most of them want good quality care for their patients. As one PMR

physician stated to me, the better success that I have with his patients,

the better he looks (and the busier he will get without needing a financial

kickback).
