Guest guest
>For wireless 9-1-1 calls, even when somebody can talk, there's no guarantee the caller can provide a location. < I was always amazed when they COULD provide a location. >my point is what if there is no voice on the other end of the >line CANNOT talk and VERIFY the correct location, what do you do >then?.......think about it....< How many of these calls are you going to take in a career? I'm talking real emergencies...(not " butt " or " purse " calls on wireless) I may have missed out on some of this thread, so I'm not sure I'm talking of the same thing... But the large majority of the " wrong location " calls are NOT because someone " couldn't " talk.. or verify their location. Sad to say, a lot of them are simply because the Dispatcher didn't use good basic interrogation techniques. I answered a lot of calls over thirty years, most of them without any type of computer addressing assistance. I can remember very.. very... few where I didn't manage to get " where " & " what " ... and in almost all of them the " who " " when " " why " and much much more. If it comes down to.... all you have is your computer information.. then that's all you have. But if interrogation is available to the calltaker/dispatcher and it is not done properly, than that calltaker/dispatcher is not doing their job and should be held accountable. Guest guest
> confirmed the address, and could've swore the mother was there, at the caller's address. < That's why interrogation is so important, and why you should NEVER sacrifice " speed " for " accuracy " . Sometimes... a deep breath... a few " calming " conversational questions, will put your caller at ease. If you get the caller out of the " emergency " mode and into a much calmer conversational mode you'll be surprised how much information will just " come out " ... And.. if you can get the conversation in this mode... your interrogation will improve, because you've changed modes also. Please... don't think I'm " second guessing " your co-worker. I'm not. Just general information that has worked well for me in the past. Weintraut
