Guest guest
Sounds like she is doing what young people need to do, try a few things and see what suits them best. You'd hate for it to be like my friend, whose daughter just finished massage school and didn't figure out that she hated to touch people until the end of the program when they finally started working with real people. The mom is thinking and I paid for what? is awesome. Kim L Update/Ohio Hi to all, I am officially on vacation until next Monday morning when I go back to teaching. I am just beginning to enjoy a much needed break. It's been a really tough year at school. ( My toughest in my 15 years of teaching sp. ed.) Thought I would catch everyone up on our daugher ,20,cHARGE. Many of you know she went away to U of Akron last year as a college freshman and lived in the dorm as a dance( ballet, pointe etc)major. She did okay, but didn't like it. She now lives in an apartment 45 minutes from home with a girlfiend from high school. She is attending small Lakeland Community College in the next town west of her. She is/was a business major. She has found out she isn't cut out for that. She is struggling to pass her classes and hates them. She works part time. She is a dietary aid in a good size hospital. She delivers food trays and picks them up, charts percent eaten, and returns the trays to the kitchen. She loves her job. It's easy to do when she is not taking college classes. She is so very much at home in a hospital. After 27 surgeries and many illness, she should be comfortable. She has decided that at this point in her life she would rather work than attend a four year college program. She has decided to become a phlebotomist. She will start the Certificate program at Lakeland in January 2005 and should take her test in Aug. or Sept.2005. She will also take one nursing class to keep full time status in college. After she works a year or two she hopes to start taking nursing classes one at a time. ( If she doesn't change her mind again) Nursing is what she thought she wanted to do when she was in high school but the dance thing took over for a while. also has a new boyfriend. She and her old one ( of two years) parted ways. I like the new one too. He attends U of Akron which is about 45min. from 's apartment. has fully recovered from her July ear surgery and her August UTI ( bad one, ER trip etc.). She has stayed healthy so far this fall and winter and for that I am grateful, especially working in a hospital. HAPPY THANKGIVING TO ALL. Guest guest
Great update! 's been through a lot of changes in the past year or 2. Did she handle the break up with ok? Sounds like she's finding her way after a bit of wavering - I think that's to be expected for a youngster going off to college. How can a person know what they really want to be? I haven't even decided that yet!! At least she hasn't wasted a lot of time on any one thing and is on a straight path for now. Guest guest
Thanks Kim, We think she is pretty awesome too. How could she not know she didn't like to touch people. Wow. I feel for your friend. All CHARGE kids are AWESOME, each in their own way!! Lynn Update/Ohio Hi to all, I am officially on vacation until next Monday morning when I go back to teaching. Guest guest
Pam, You're welcome. Do you get a Thanksgiving break too? Do all your residential students go home for the holidays? Perkins sounds so wonderful. Lynn RE: Update/Ohio Lynne, thanks for the update. I like that she is exercising all of her options and really searching for what fulfills her. Guest guest
Michele, She did handle the break up okay. Once she moved, the 45 minute drive kind of seperated them. did all the driving and calling. She stopped and he didn't make any effort. As and I discussed, God has other plans for both of them. is very mature for her 20 years. She takes good care of all aspects of her life. We are very very proud of her, even her " stupid, young adult mistakes " . ) Lynn Re: Update/Ohio Great update! 's been through a lot of changes in the past year or 2. Guest guest
has had an exciting year. Finding out what she wants to do in life is hard. a changed her major her sophomore year and has a friend in her senior year at Boston University who is now changing her major! That is just one of those things. A health care career is something which we will always be in need of. Good choice in my opinion! Have a wonderful vacation and get that rest. Guest guest
Sounds great. A nice smooth natural breakup -- much better than a traumatic ending event. is quite a gal! Michele W >
Guest guest
Thanks Bonnie, I have rested some aready. My husband and I went out to breakfast. He works nights and I am gone days so we spend our together time doing what we enjoy. We are both on vacation. I am puttering in the kitchen getting stuff ready for tomorrow. I agree, health care is always needed. She has such compassion for people ( and animals). She will do just fine. She has appologized for " wasting a year and a half " . We don't agree that " wasted " is what she has done. She has learned so much about herself and about handling life stuff, the time is not a waste at all. Happy Thanksgiving.
